다문화가정 아동의 언어발달 특성과 진단․평가에 대한 문헌 고찰

국문 초록

다문화사회에서 교사들에게 가장 큰 문제들 중 하나는 아동의 발달 특성을 파악하는 것과 함께 문화적, 언어적으로 다양한 배경을 지닌 아동들을 공정하고, 적절하게 평가하는 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 2000년 이후 다문화가정 아동 언어관련 국내 학술지논문을 중심으로 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달 특성을 알아보고, 이들 연구에서 사용한 진단․평가 방법에 대해 고찰하였다. 연구결과, 초기에는 어휘력 중심의 언어 발달 실태에 집중되었는데 점차 형태 구문론적 영역, 조음음운영역, 음운인식과 읽기 등으로 주제가 다양해졌다. 대부분의 연구에서 다문화가정 아동의 언어와 읽기능력이 일반가정 아동에 비해 낮은 성취를 보이며, 어머니관련 변인의 영향이 큰 것으로 보고하고 있다. 위의 결과를 바탕으로 다문화환경을 고려한 진단․평가, 조기 선별과 가족 지원, 문화적응적인 교사 양성이 필요하다는 점에 대해 제언하였다. 둘째, 진단․평가 방법들을 살펴본 결과 규준참조검사와 비공식적인 방법 등을 사용하여 다양하고 다각적인 진단․평가가 이루어지고 있었다. 다만 화용영역과 음운인식 영역은 규준참조검사를 사용한 연구가 없었다. 마지막으로 보다 공정한 평가를 위하여 다문화아동을 포함한 규준검사 도구 개발의 필요성과 다문화환경을 반영한 보완적인 평가의 병행, 교사들의 진단․평가에 대한 이해가 필요하다는 점에 대하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

One of the biggest problems facing teachers is the understanding of children's development characteristics and the fair and appropriate evaluation of children from various culture and language backgrounds. This study examined language development characteristics of children from multicultural families in domestic scientific treatises related to children from multicultural families published since 2000 and reviewed assessment methods used in the researches. The findings suggest that while early researches focused on language development of vocabulary, their subjects were extended to syntax, articulation and phonological, and phonological awareness areas and reading. Most researches reported that language and reading ability of children from multicultural families was lower than those from non-multicultural families and mother-related variables had great effects. Based on the results, first, the need of assessment based on multicultural environment, early screening, family support, and culturally adaptive teachers was suggested. Second, assessment methods were examined and it was found that various and diversified methods were conducted such as a norm-referenced test and informal assessment. But pragmatic and phonological awareness areas have never used a norm-referenced test. Thus, it is necessary to develop norm test instruments which include children from multicultural families for fairer assessment and conduct complementary assessment which reflects multicultural environment simultaneously. Moreover, teachers should understand assessment.
