영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to suggest an effective way of presenting ‘-것 같다’ in Korean Education as a Foreign Language. ‘-것 같다’ is one of the important expressions with speculative and euphemistic function. Traditionally, we concentrated more on its euphemistic aspect than its speculative aspect. However, not just the euphemistic function but the speculative function of ‘-것 같다’ should be emphasized at the same time. The results of the study are as follows: First, I suggest a way to tell the difference of the functions, for the two functions should be presented separately. In this case, it is essential to provide the situational and contextual information of it due to the division is quite situation/context-dependant. Second, ‘-것 같다’ has both speculative and euphemistic functions at any situation, regardless of the grammatical features of its antecedent.
