영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relative contribution of segments and intonation to the perception of Korean(L2) learners’ foreign accent. Furthermore, comprehensibility and intelligibility as well as accentedness were also examined. For the stimuli, two korean accented-speakers and two English accented-speakers’ speech was recorded. Ten sentences were manipulated by combining segments from one speaker with intonation and 40 sentences(4 conditions × 10 sentences) were made. 13 Native Korean listeners (F7, M6) participated in the perception test. The result shows that although intonation affects the accentedness test, overall, segmental information plays a dominant role over the intonation in comprehensibility, accentedness, and intelligibility test. That is, segmental information contributes more to the perception of foreign accentedness than intonation.
