영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to compare the compliance- gaining strategy between Koreans and Chinese and to examine the reasons in the basis of the theories of intercultural communication. In the interests of revealing cultural differences of interpersonal communication strategies, how nationality affects the choice of compliance-gaining strategy and how sex difference is associated with nationality were the focus of the study. Two hundreds and twenty Koreans and Sixty Chinese were participated in the research. Descriptive statistics, T-tests, and Two way ANOVA were used in the analysis of data. The results revealed little difference in the compliance-gaining strategy between Korean and Chinese. The effect of gender on the nationality was not significant. 'Liking' and 'Altruism' were the most frequently used strategies. The most interesting finding was that the use of 'Dept' and 'promise' strategies were significantly different between Korean and Chinese. Along with these findings, limitations of the study and implications for future research are discussed.
