국문 초록

송대 이후 동아시아에서 선종이 확산되면서 선승과 문인은 시문을 매개로 교류하는 양상이 성행했다. 이러한 경향은 공안선이 성행되면서 선승들이 고전지식과 시문의 소양을 갖추게 되었고, 선이 문인 계층에 확산되었던 양상과 관련된다. 선종문화는 문인문화의 영향을 받으며 형성되었으며 원대까지 유행했다. 공안선은 12~13세기에 고려에 수용되고, 공안집과 공안 주석서의 편찬이 지속적으로 이루어졌다. 통설과 달리 13세기까지 문자선이 성행하고, 14세기 이후에 간화선이 확산되었다. 일본에서는 13세기 후반에 중국 도래승과 일본 유학승을 통해 공안선이 점차 수용되었다. 가마쿠라막부의 후원으로 선종 사원이 건립되고, 천황가, 공가의 후원이 이어져 오산이 형성되었다. 소식, 황정견 등으로 대표되는 송대 문학은 선종문화에 깊은 영향을 미쳤다. 각범혜홍은 이러한 경향을 대표하는 선승이며, 특히 황정견의 작시법을 소개하고 해설했다. 환골탈태론을 비롯한 작시법은 각범의 저작을 통해 고려, 일본에 소개되었고 선승과 문인들에게 공유되었다. 오산문화는 13세기 후반에서 17세기 전반까지 일본문화의 중심을 이루었다. 오산 선승들이 방대하게 남긴 시문 자료는 동아시아 선종문화의 구체적인 양상이 어떠한지를 잘 보여준다. 송, 원대 시문집과 그에 대한 주석서가 편찬, 간행되었고, 오산 작품을 모은 시문집이 다양하게 편찬되었다. 오산 선승은 쇼군, 다이묘 등 권력자들의 후원을 받으며, 그들과 문인문화를 공유했다. 동아시아의 선종문화는 공통적으로 문인문화의 성격을 갖고 세속화의 길로 나아갔으며, 결국 선종의 생명력이 약화되었다.

영문 초록

Since the Song Dynasty, as Chan Buddhism spread in East Asia, the practice of Chan monks and literati interacting through poetry and writing became popular. This trend is based on the fact that Chan monks acquired classical knowledge and poetic skills as Gongan Chan became popular, and Chan spread to the literati class. Chan culture was formed under the influence of literati culture and was popular from the end of the Southern Song Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty. Gongan Chan was accepted in Goryeo during the 12th and 13th centuries, and the compilation of Gongan collections and Gongan commentaries continued. Contrary to popular belief, Munja Seon was popular until the 13th century, and Kanhwa Seon spread after the 14th century. In Japan, Gongan Chan was gradually accepted through Chinese monks and Japanese monks studying abroad in the late 13th century. Chan temples were built in Kamakura under the support of the Kamakura shogunate, and Osan was formed under the support of the imperial family and the noble family. Song Dynasty literature represented by Su Shi and Huang TingJian had a profound influence on Chan culture. Juefan Huigong is a representative Chan monk of this trend, and in particular, he introduced and explained Huang TingJian’s poetry writing method. The poetry writing method, including the theory of transformation into a new body of work, was introduced to Goryeo and Japan through Juefan Huigong’s works and shared among Chan monks and literati. Osan culture was the center of Japanese culture from the late 13th century to the early 17th century. The vast amount of poetry and prose left behind by Osan Chan monks clearly shows the specific aspects of East Asian Chan culture. Anthologies of poems and prose from the Song and Yuan Dynasties and commentaries on them were compiled and published, and various anthologies of poems and prose containing Osan’s works were compiled. Osan Chan monks received support from powerful figures such as shoguns and daimyos, and shared literati culture with them. The Chan culture of East Asia had the common character of literati culture and moved toward secularization, which eventually weakened the vitality of Chan Buddhism.
