국문 초록

本稿では、動詞否定丁寧形｢~ません｣と｢~ないです｣の使用状況を分析し、両形式の使い分けの要因として｢発話機能｣(叙述機能、表出機能、呼びかけ機能)が関連していることを主張する。質問紙調査の分析を行い、以下の二点を明らかにする。 1)動詞否定丁寧形｢~ません｣と｢~ないです｣は発話機能が異なる。｢~ません｣形は｢表出｣機能、｢呼びかけ｣機能が強く働くのに対し、｢~ないです｣形は｢叙述｣機能が強く働く傾向がある。 2)従来の研究では、動詞述語文において｢~ないです｣形の許容度がかなり低いと指摘されてきたが、｢動詞述語文｣でも｢~ないです｣形の許容度が高い場合がある。話し手がある事柄や事態を単純に打ち消す場合、すなわち叙述機能を有する場合は｢~ないです｣形の許容度が高くなる。

영문 초록

In this article, I analyse the usage patterns of -masen and -naidesu, the negated polite forms of verbs, and argue that a primary factor for their usage differences is related to “speech functions”(the representation function, the expressive function, and the appellative function). Based on a questionnaire -based survey, the main findings of the present study are summarised as follows. Firstly, -masen and -naidesu exhibit different speech functions. Whilst the -masen form particularly displays the “expressive” function and the “appellative” function, the -naidesu form is predominantly associated with the “representation” function. Secondly, previous studies have pointed out that the acceptability of the -naidesu form is considerably low in the case of verbal predicative sentences, but this form is indeed naturally used in some instances even in the case of verbal predicative sentences. That is, the form is naturally used when it has a representation function, where a speaker simply negates a certain fact or state-of-affairs.
