목회자 성범죄에 관한 체계적 사고

국문 초록

최근 한국 사회 전반에서 ‘미투운동’이 확산되고 있는 상황에서, 개신교내에서는 ‘미투운동’이 꽤 소극적이다. 하지만 이러한 소극적인 흐름이 개신교와 목회자가 성범죄에서 자유롭다는 의미는 아니다. 오히려 목회자에게 부여된 강력한 영적 권위와 힘, 그리고 한국 교회의 목회자와 성도간의 절대적 힘의 불균형의 관계 때문에 목회자들은 성범죄에 연루될 가능성이 높다. 목회자 성범죄는 개인의 성적 또는 영적 일탈이라는 선형적 요인(linear causation)의 문제가 아니라, 개인의 자기애적 병리, 사회 문화적, 그리고 종교적 차원에서의 힘의 악용이 서로 얽혀 만들어낸 체계적(systemic) 문제다. 먼저, 목회자의 성범죄는 자기애적 힘의 남용이다. 자기애적 인격 장애 성향의 목회자는 교인들과의 성적인 관계를 통해 자신의 남성 정체성을 과시하고자 하며, 자신의 욕구 만족을 위해 성적으로 대인관계적 착취를 하며, 성범죄 피해자들에 대한 공감 부족을 보이고 있다. 둘째, 목회자의 성범죄는 한국 사회의 남성 중심 가부장적 힘의 남용이다. 한국사회의 남성들은 가정의 지배자요, 직장에서는 여성을 지배할 힘과 사회적 지위를 한국 사회와 문화로부터 부여받아 사회 문화적 힘의 약자인 여성을 성적으로 지배하고 착취하였다. 셋째, 목회자 성범죄는 영적 권력의 남용이다. 자기애적 힘의 남용과 남성 중심 가부장적 힘의 남용을 소유한 목회자는 강력한 영적 권력을 통하여 힘이 없는 여성 교인을 성적으로 지배하고 착취하는 영적 권력을 남용하는 성범죄를 저지른다. 이처럼, 목회자 성범죄는 심리적 자기애적 힘의 남용, 남성 지배적 가부장적 힘의 남용, 그리고 영적 권력의 남용으로서 교회 권력의 힘의 남용을 통해 교묘히 보호받고 있다. 목회자 성범죄는 어느 특정한 목회자의 문제가 아니라 자기애적 힘, 남성 중심적 가부장적 힘, 그리고 영적 권위주의를 지향하는 많은 목회자들에게도 발생할 수 있는 가능성이 있기에, 목회자 성범죄에 대한 철저한 예방 교육과 성범죄 가해자에 대한 강력한 처벌이 필요하다.

영문 초록

The ‘Me Too Movement’ in Protestant churches seems quite passive, in spite of the movement’s spread to all fields of contemporary Korea society. However, this passive stream does not mean that Protestant pastors are free from this movement. Rather, pastors are likely more involved in sexual crime because of their powerful spiritual authority aspastors, and because of power imbalance between pastors and lay people in the Korean church. Pastoral sexual crime is not matter of linear causation in terms of personal sexual or spiritual deviation but a systemic problem in view of the personal pathology of narcissism and the abuse of power at the social, cultural, and religious level. First, pastor sexual misconduct derives from a pastoral proclivity to engage in narcissism. A pastor who has tendency of a narcissistic personality disorder shows off his male identity through sexual relationship with woman believers. This reveals the interpersonal dynamic in which his need to satisfy his sexual desires comes at the expense of the exploitation of the women of his church and shows lack of empathy towards the sufferers of sexual crime. Second, pastoral sexual crime harnesses male-centered patriarchal power in Korean society and culture. Males in Korea society are dominators in the family. They sexually dominate and exploit females who are social and cultural underdogs. This is possible because they received the dominant power and social status from Korea society and culture. Third, pastoral sexual crime is abuse of spiritual power. A pastor that holds the abuse of narcissism power and male-centered patriarchal power, commits sexual crime to the weak female believer by using their absolute spiritual power. Thus, pastor sexual crime is the abuse of narcissistic power, male-centered patriarchal power, and spiritual power. This crime is protected by abuse of church’s power. However, pastor sexual crime is not any special pastor’s problem. It is likely to happen to many pastors
