유아영어학습에서의 교사 유형이 학습자의 흥미도, 동기/태도, 자신감에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아영어교육에서 교사유형에 따라 사전-사후, 세 집단 간에 유아학습자들의 영어학습에 대한 흥미, 동기/태도, 자신감의 증진에 차별적 효과가 나타나는 지를 검증하는 것이다. 이에 원어민교사수업, 한국인교사수업, 코티칭(Co-teaching) 수업 간의 효과 차이를 분석했다. 연구기간은 11월3일부터 이듬해 2월 1일까지 주2회 12주 동안 총 24회 만 5-6세 30명을 대상으로, 교사유형에 따라 사전-사후 흥미, 동기/태도, 자신감의 증진을 비교 분석했다. 분석방법은 세 집단의 사전 사후의 차이를 알아보기 위해 t검증과 교사 유형별 차이를 알아보기 위해 ANOVA 검증을 수행하였다. 결과는 첫째, 유아영어 학습자의 흥미는 세 수업 모두 증진되었으나, 코티칭 수업에서만 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 동기/태도는 모든 수업에서 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 증가되었다. 셋째, 자신감은 원어민 교사 수업과 한국인 교사 수업에서는 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 증가되었으나, 코티칭 수업에서는 유의한 증가가 검증되지 않았다. 끝으로 교사 유형별 세 집단 간에는 유아영어 학습자의 흥미, 동기/태도, 자신감에서 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이런 결과는 유아영어학습을 통해 학습자들의 영어에 대한 흥미, 동기/태도, 자신감 등이 향상될 수 있으므로 이들을 대상으로 진행되는 수업은 지적수행 외의 정의적 영역들에 대한 효과 또한 고려되어야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to prove if there is any change or difference in the interest level, motivation/attitude, and confidence of young children before and after an English course on three different combination of teacher types; a class taught by a native English speaker, a class taught by a native Korean speaker and a co-teaching class taught by both. To conduct the research, 30 children, 5 and 6 year-old, were selected for classes held twice a week, 24 times in total within 12 weeks, from Nov. 3th to Feb. 1th of the following year to compare and analyze their interest level, motivation/attitude, and confidence change in each class of different teacher types. To analyze the result, t-test was used to compare the difference of before and after and ANOVA verification to compare the difference of each teacher types. First, the Interest level of the young children in all three classes has been increased but it statistically showed a significant difference only in the co-teaching class. Second, the motivation/attitude of the young children in all three classes has statistically been increased. Third, confidence level of the young children in the two classes, the class taught by a native English speaker and the class taught by a native Korean speaker has been increased but not in the co-teaching class. Finally, any difference in the interest level, motivation/attitude, and confidence of young children among those three classes taught by different types of teacher has not been observed. It shows that the interest level, motivation/attitude, and confidence of young children can be increased through English learning in their early age, therefore, besides intellectual activities, the influence of affective factors are also needed to be considered for their English class.
