국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 성인 영재와 일반인의 미성취감 및 행복도를 비교하고 변인들 사이의 관계를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로 영재 아동이 행복한 성인으로 자랄 수 있는 방법을 찾고 영재교육의 올바른 방향을 찾는 것과 동시에 행복도를 낮추는 요인들을 제거하여 영재의 인지적 발달 뿐 아니라 정서적 발달을 돕는 데에 연구의 의의가 있다. 본 연구에는 45개국 멘사(IQ 상위 2% 모임) 가운데 한국을 제외한 12개국 국제 멘사 회원 총 361명과 27개 국적의 일반인 194명이 참여하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성인 영재, 즉 Terman 영재가 일반인 집단보다 미성취 영재의 긍정적 특성, 부정적 특성, 전체 특성에서 더 높은 빈도를 나타냈다. 특히 Terman 영재이면서 창의성과 과제집착력이 낮은 집단, 즉 비Renzulli 집단에서 미성취 영재 부정적 특성의 평균이 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 성인 영재, 즉 Terman 영재의 행복도가 일반인보다 더 높게 나타났으며 창의성과 과제집착력이 멘사 평균보다 높은 Renzulli 영재 집단은 그렇지 않은 집단보다 높은 행복도를 나타내었다. 셋째, 성인 영재와 일반인 집단 모두 창의성과 과제집착력은 행복도와 높은 정적 상관관계를, 미성취 영재 부정적 특성은 높은 부적 상관관계를 보였다. 창의성, 과제집착력, 미성취 영재 부정적 특성이 행복감에 미치는 영향을 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과 모두 유의미한 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare underachievement and happiness among gifted adults and the general public and analyse the relationships between those factors. This study can ultimately help the cognitive and psychological development of gifted individuals by identifying ways for gifted children to become happy adults, finding appropriate educational programs and eliminating factors that reduce their level of happiness. Among 45 international Mensa organizations (High IQ society), 361 Mensa members from 13 countries and 194 fron the general public from 27 countries participated in this research. The results of the study were as follows: First, the more both Mensa members and the general public group showed traits of the underachieving gifted, their happiness levels tended to drop. Most of all, the Mensa group showed the highest frequency average of positive and negative traits of the gifted and these two traits showed high correlation. Second, the happiness level of the group whose level of creativity and task commitment were higher than that of the Mensa average was higher than the happiness level of the other group. Third, the level of creativity, task commitment, happiness of the Mensa group showed a high and positive relationship and those factors showed negative correlation with negative traits of the underachieving gifted. Also, the levels of creativity, task commitment and happiness in the general public group showed a positive correlation. Creativity, task commitment and negative traits of the underachieving gifted affect their happiness significantly.
