지적장애 여성의 모성 위기와 모성 정체성 회복 과정에 대한 미술치료 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 “모성 위기 상황에서 미술치료가 지적장애 여성의 정체성 이해와 모성 역할 수용에 어떤 변화를가져오는가?”라는 질문에서 출발하였다. 연구자는 출산 이후 자녀의 건강 문제와 강제 분리 등 위기 상황을 겪으며 심리적 혼란을 경험한 지적장애 여성이, 미술치료를 통해 자기감과 모성 정체성을 회복하고 다시 ‘엄마’로서 살아갈 수 있도록 돕고자 하였다. 본 연구는 Stern(1985, 2010)의 자기감 발달 이론을 이론적 기반으로 하여총 8회기의 미술치료를 구성하였으며, 그 과정을 통해 내담자가 경험한 변화의 구조와 의미를 Braun과Clarke(2006)의 주제분석 방법에 따라 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘생명의 위기와 감정 수용’, ‘상실과 회복의 반복’, ‘엄마로서의 책임과 성장’, ‘현실적 고민 속 모성 통합’, ‘자기 선언으로서의 모성 통합’이라는 5개의 주제와 이를아우르는 근본 주제인 ‘모성의 의미를 찾아가는 과정’이 도출되었다. 연구 결과, 내담자는 미술 작업을 통해 감정을 안전하게 표현하고, 위기 속에서도 모성을 포기하지 않으며, 자신을 돌보는 주체로서의 ‘엄마’로 서기 시작하였다. 이 연구를 통해 지적장애 여성이 충분히 모성 역할을 수행할 수 있음을 임상적 관찰을 통해 확인할 수있었으며, 그들의 모성이 사회적으로도 존중받고 지지받아야 한다는 메시지를 담고 있다. 이러한 연구 결과를바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This qualitative case study investigated how art therapy could support a woman with intellectual disabilities in restoring her sense of self and maternal identity, and accepting the maternal role during the crisis of motherhood. The study originated from the question: “How does art therapy influence the changes in the sense of self and maternal identity, as well as the acceptance of the maternal role, in a woman with intellectual disabilities facing a maternal crisis?” The participant, who experienced psychological distress due to her newborn’s critical health problems and enforced separation after childbirth, received art therapy. The intervention, consisting of eight sessions, was grounded in Daniel Stern’s(1985, 2010) theory of the development of the sense of self, and the data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s(2006) thematic analysis method. The analysis identified five themes “Life crisis and emotional acceptance.”, “The repetition of loss and recovery.”, “Responsibility and growth as a mother.”, “Integrating motherhood amid practical concerns.”, and “The integration of motherhood as self-declaration.” unified under the overarching theme, “A journey to discovering the meaning of motherhood.” The study found that the participant was able to express emotions safely, maintain her maternal identity despite crises, and began to stand as a mother who could actively care for herself through structured art activities. This study provided a clinical evidence that a woman with intellectual disabilities was capable of fulfilling the maternal role, and conveyed the message that the motherhood should be respected and supported by society. The implications and limitations of the study were discussed.
