영유아를 위한 잠과 관련된 그림책 내용분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 영유아의 성장 발달에 필수 요소인 잠의 특성이 그림책에서 어떻게 표현되었는지 구체적으로 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내·외 그림책 중 잠을 주요 내용으로 다루고 있는 그림책 24권을 대상으로 내용분석법을 사용하여 등장인물의 특성, 잠들기까지의 특성을 기준으로 빈도와 내용을 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 등장인물의 특성 중 잠자는 주체는 동물, 아이 순이였고 아이에서는 남자아이가 가장 많았고, 잠을 돕는 조력자는 엄마가 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 잠들기까지의특성 중 잠들기 의식은 기본생활, 애착 물건 찾기 순으로 나타났고, 잠들기 거부 유·무에서는 잠들기를 거부하는 것으로 묘사된 비율이 높게 나타났으며, 잠드는 장소는 익숙한 환경인 우리 집이가장 많은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 부모 및 교사에게 영유아의 잠 관련 특성을 이해하고 양질의 잠을 위한 환경에대해 생각해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하며, 영유아의 잠 관련 그림책 창작 활동 방향에 시사점을제공하는 것에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine how the characteristics of sleep, a crucial factor in the growth and development of young children, are portrayed in picture books. To achieve this, a content analysis was conducted on 24 domestic and international picture books in which sleep serves as a central theme. The analysis focused on the frequency and narrative content related to the characteristics of the main characters and the process leading to sleep. The results indicated the following. First, among the types of characters shown sleeping, animals were the most frequent, followed by young children, with boys more commonly represented than girls. Mothers were most frequently depicted as caregivers assisting with sleep. Second, regarding the pre-sleep process, bedtime routines most often included basic daily activities and the use of attachment objects. Resistance to sleep was more commonly portrayed than smooth transitions to sleep. In terms of sleep environments, the most common setting was the familiar home environment. These findings suggest that picture books can serve as effective tools for parents and educators to understand young children's sleep-related behaviors and emotional expressions. Furthermore, the results provide meaningful implications for the development of picture books related to sleep in early childhood education.
