제주방언 ‘검다’ 계열 색채어 형용사 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 제주방언의 ‘검다’ 계열 색채 형용사를 대상으로 국어학적 특징을 분석하 는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해『개정증보 제주어사전』(2009)과 송상조의 『20세기 제주말 큰사전』(2023)에서 색채 의미를 지닌 낱말을 최대한 포괄적으로 추출하되, 직접적인 색깔 어근이 없는 단어는 제외하였다. 그 결과, 음운적 특징으로는 양성모음과 음성모음의 대립이 어감과 말하는 이의 태도에 영향을 주며, 예사소리와 된소리의 자음 대립은 의미 변화 없이 채도의 차이를 나타낸다. 형태적 특징은 접미사가 결합된 유형에서 ‘색채어 어근(어근+접미사) 중복 + ᄒᆞ 다’, ‘색채어 어근(어근+접미사) + -ᄒᆞ 다’로 나뉘며, 전자는 접미사 ‘-(으)ㅅ’, 후자는 ‘- 엉/-앙(-앟/-엏)’, ‘-(으)롱/-(으)룽/-(으)룩’, ‘-(으)스름, -(으)수룽’ 등 다양한 접미사 가 쓰인다. 접미사의 종류에 따라 색채의 정도성이 달라지는 점도 확인되었다. 통사적으로는 ‘색채어#체언’ 구조에서 관용적 의미가 나타나며, ‘정도부사#색채 어’ 관계에서는 명도 차이에 따라 사용하는 부사 종류가 달라진다. 이 연구는 제주방언의 색채 표현 방식과 지역 언어의 정체성을 이해하는 데 의의가 있 다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the linguistic characteristics of color adjectives in the ‘geomda’ (black) series of the Jeju dialect. For this purpose, lexical items with color-related meanings were comprehensively extracted from the Revised and Enlarged Jeju Dialect Dictionary (2009) and Song Sang-jo’s 20th Century Jeju Language Dictionary (2023), excluding words without direct color roots.Phonologically, the contrast between positive and negative vowels influences the nuance and attitude of the speaker, while the opposition between lax and tense consonants reflects differences in chroma without semantic change.Morphologically, the adjectives are formed through two main structures: ‘color root (root + suffix) reduplication + -hada’ and ‘color root (root + suffix) + -hada’. The former includes suffixes like -(eu)s (s representing the Korean consonant ㅅ, siot), while the latter features diverse suffixes such as -eong/-ang (-ah/-eoh), -(eu)rong/-(eu)rung/-(eu)ruk, and -(eu)seureum, -(eu)surung. The type of suffix contributes to gradations in color intensity.Syntactically, fixed expressions appear in the ‘color adjective # noun’ structure, and the selection of adverbs in the ‘degree adverb # color adjective’ structure varies depending on differences in brightness.This study offers insights into the color expression system of the Jeju dialect and reveals aspects of regional linguistic identity.
