국문 초록

본 연구는 지속가능발전목표 중 12번째 목표인 지속가능한 소비와 생산 양식의 보장을 위한 유아 업사이클링의 형성과 변화, 업사이클링의 참여를 통한 환경보전태도 및 재활용 인식의 변화를 살펴보기 위해 실시되었다. 연구현장은 2023년 9월부터 2024년 2월까지 충청남도에 소재한 Y어린이집의 풀잎반이며, 연구참여자는 풀잎반 유아 10명이다. 연구실행은 계획-사전 검사-1차 실행-관찰-지원-관찰 및 성찰-2차 실행-관찰-사후 검사로 진행되었다. 그리고 실행 전과 후에 검사 결과와 실행 과정에서 질적 자료들이 수집 및 분석되었다. 1차 실행에서는 교실의 한쪽 코너에 재활용품을 배치하고 벽면에 업사이클링 사진을 붙인 ‘건강한 지구 영역’을 제공하였고, 유아들이 설계도를 그린 후 재활용품으로 만들기를 할 수 있도록 지원하였다. 그 결과, 연구참여자는 작품성 있는 결과물을 만들었고, 이를 어린이집에 전시해 주기를 요구하였다. 또한, 또한, 2차 실행에서는 유용성을 위한 추가 재료를 제공하였다. 그 결과, 연구참여자들은 열쇠고리, 종이 조명 등을 만들어 실제로 사용하였으며, 점차 놀이에서 필요한 도구나 놀잇감을 스스로 만들어 놀이하였다. 연구에 참여한 유아들은 질적 자료와 검사 결과에서 환경보전태도 및 재활용 인식에 긍정적 변화를 나타내었다. 후속 연구로는 환경뿐 아니라 경제 및 사회적 관점까지 실천할 수 있는 업사이클링 실행 연구를 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the emergence and transformation of upcycling in children to ensure sustainable consumption and production, in alignment with Goal 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). It also examined changes in children’s environmental attitudes and recycling awareness through participation in upcycling activities. The research was conducted in the Grass Leaf Class of Y Day Care Center in Chungcheongnam-do from September 2023 to February 2024, involving ten children. The process included planning, a pre-test, two implementation cycles with observation, support, and reflection, followed by a post-test. Both qualitative data and quantitative results from before and after the interventions were analyzed. In the first implementation, a ‘Healthy Earth Zone’ was created by displaying upcycling photos and placing recycled materials in a classroom corner. Children were also encouraged to design blueprints. As a result, they produced artistic works and requested that they be exhibited. In the second phase, additional materials were provided, leading to the creation of practical items such as keychains and paper lamps, which the children incorporated into daily life and play. Participation in upcycling activities fostered positive changes in children’s environmental attitudes and recycling awareness. Future research to support upcycling should be practiced not only from an environmental perspective but also from economic and social perspectives.
