국문 초록

본 연구는 장자의 무위의 덕이 개인의 수양과 타자의 관계성을 함양하는 데 많은 시사점이 있음을 밝히고 장자의 덕이 인성교육에 지니는 교육적 함의를 탐색하기 위하여 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 현대에 중시되고 있는 ‘덕’의 문제와 장자의 덕의 특성을 살펴보았다. 장자의 덕이 잘 드러난 부분으로 『莊子』「內篇·德充符」편과 『莊子』「外篇·馬蹄」편을 분석하여 ‘불언지교’와 ‘동덕’에 나타난 무위의 덕을 해석하였다. 장자의 덕은 개별자들이 지닌 자연본성을 중시하며, 이 자연본성은 무위할 때만이 이루어진다. 이러한 무위의 덕성을 함양하면 주체의 내면을 자연한 본성으로 가꾸어갈 수 있으며, ‘타자’와 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 역량을 기를 수 있다. 이것은 장자의 덕이 도가적 인성교육, 즉 자율성 함양, 타인과의 관계, 공동체 의식 함양, 자연과의 조화로 해석될 수 있는 가능성을 말해준다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to reveal that the virtue (德) of wuwei (無爲) in Zhuangzi’s (莊子) pilosophy has many implications for cultivating the relationship between individual discipline and others, and to explore its educational implications for character education. To this end, we examined the modern emphasis on ‘virtue (德)’, and the characteristics of the virtue (德) of Zhuangzi (莊子). The section of 『Zhuangzi (莊子)』「Inner Chapters (內篇) · The Seal of Virtue Complete (德充符)」 and 『Zhuangzi (莊子)」「Outer Chapters (外篇) · Horses's Hoofs (馬蹄)」 were analyzed to interpret the virtue of inaction that appears in ‘Teaching without Speaking (不言之敎)’ and ‘Common Virtue (同德)’. The virtue of Zhuangzi (莊子) emphasizes the natural nature of individuals, which can only be realized when there is inaction. If we cultivate this virtue of wuwei (無爲), the inner self can be developed into a state of natural authenticity and gain the ability to live together with ‘others.’ This suggests the possibility that the virtue of Zhuangzi (莊子) can be interpreted as Daoist character education, which fosters autonomy, relationships with others, a sense of community, and harmony with nature.
