국문 초록

본 연구는 디지털 시대의 언어 교육 환경 변화에 대응하여, 한국어교육에서 ‘보기(viewing)’를 독립적인 수용 언어 기술로 설정하고, 그 하위 구성 요소를 이론적으로 정립하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기존 언어 기능 분류에서는 듣기와 읽기만이 대표적 수용 기술로 간주되어 왔으나, 실제 교육 현장과 매체 환경에서는 시청각 기반의 복합적 정보 해석 능력이 요구되고 있으며, 이러한 능력은 단순한 보조 활동이 아닌 핵심적인 언어 기능으로 이해되어야 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 먼저 듣기와 읽기의 하위 기술을 Brown(2001), Grabe & Stoller(2002), Richards(1983, 2008) 등의 이론을 바탕으로 정리하고, 그 분석 체계를 참조하여 보기에 적용 가능한 하위 요소를 도출하였다. 이후 보기의 수용 과정을 시각 정보 이해, 청각 정보 이해, 상황 및 맥락 이해의 세 범주로 나누고, 총 9개의 세부 요소를 제안하였다. 이 체계는 단지 시각 정보의 해석에 국한되지 않고, 청각 정보와 사회문화적 맥락을 통합적으로 처리하는 능력으로서 보기를 정의하는 데 초점을 둔다. 본 연구는 보기 기술이 한국어교육에서 언어 기술로서 중심 역할을 수행할 수 있음을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 수용 기술의 재구조화를 통한 교육과정 및 교수 모형의 확장 가능성을 제시하며, 다중양식적 언어 능력을 함양하는 한국어교육의 이론적 기초를 마련하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to conceptualize “viewing” as an independent receptive language skill in Korean language education and to theoretically establish its subcomponents in response to the evolving digital language learning environment. Traditionally, only listening and reading have been recognized as representative receptive skills within language education frameworks. However, in contemporary educational and media contexts, the ability to interpret multimodal information based on audiovisual input is getting increasingly essential. This competence should be regarded not as a supplementary activity, but as a core language skill. To this end, the study first analyzes the sub-skills of listening and reading based on theoretical frameworks proposed by Brown(2001), Grabe & Stoller(2002) and Richards(1983, 2008). Drawing on these models, the study identifies applicable subcomponents for viewing. The receptive process of viewing is categorized into three domains: understanding visual information, understanding auditory information, and interpreting situational and contextual cues. Across these domains, a total of nine sub-skills are proposed. This framework defines viewing not merely as the interpretation of visual information but as the integrated processing of auditory information and sociocultural contexts. This study demonstrates that viewing can play a central role as a language skill in Korean language education. By restructuring receptive skills, it opens up possibilities for curriculum development and instructional models, contributing to the theoretical foundation for fostering multimodal language competence.
