교육공동체의 교육인류학적 재해석: 산들초등학교 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

근래에 이르러서 많은 사람들이 다원화되고 조직화된 현대사회에서 발생하는 소외 문제를 공동체를 통해서 극복하려고 한다. 대안학교를 비롯한 교육공동체 운동도 그 중 하나다. 그러나 이런 시도들은 대부분 기대하는 결과를 맺지 못하고 있다. 그 이유 가운데 하나는 그들이 공통적으로 공동체를 동질적인 사람들에 의해서 구성된 별도의 실체로서 인식하기 때문이다. 산들초등학교 사례에 따르면, 공동체(共同體,community)는 사람들 사이의 동질성에 기초해서 구성되는 것이 아니라 이질성에 기초해서 구성되고, 실체로서 존재하는 것이 아니라 결회체(結會體, society)와 함께 집단의 한 측면으로서 존재한다. 결회체는 집단의 구성원들이 자신을 중심으로 타자를 대할 때, 즉 닫힌 관계를 유지할 때 형성되고, 공동체는 집단의 구성원들이 타자를 지향하는 방식으로 타자를 대할 때, 즉 열린 관계를 유지할 때 형성된다. 공동체에서 개인들은 자신과 다른 타자를 이해함으로써 열린 관계를 맺으며, 그로 인해서 서로가 주체로서 공존하는 가운데 변화하고 유대감을 느낀다. 그 점에서 열린 관계는 바로 '교육'이고, '공동체'는 '교육 공동체'이다. 이러한 결회체와 공동체는 한 사회가 유지되는 데 모두 필요하다. 사회에서 구성원들은 결회체의 측면으로 인해서 소외되지만 안정적으로 생존할 수 있으며, 공동체의 측면으로 인해서 공존할 수 있지만 불안을 경험하게 된다. 사회와 그 안에서 살아가는 인간은 양면적인 것이다. 그리고 사회의 구성원들은 둘 중 한 측면이 우세할 때 위기를 경험하고, 그 위기로 인해서 존재가 위태로워질 때 균형을 회복하기 위해서 노력한다. 최근 들어서 공동체를 실현하거나 대안교육을 모색하는 움직임 등은 적절하진 않지만 모두 우리 사회에서 약화된 공동체의 측면, 즉 교육을 회복하기 위한 노력이라고 볼 수 있다. 이 점에 비추어 보면, 다원화되고 조직화된 현대사회에서 공동체를 회복하고 소외를 극복하는 길은 기존의 사회와는 별도의 공동체 집단을 구성하거나 대안학교를 만드는 데에 있는 것이 아니라, 사람들로 하여금 타자들과 열린 관계를 맺을 수 있는 기회와 장소를 충실하고 풍부하게 제공하는 데에 있다. 예를 들면, 학생들로 하여금 학문의 결과를 더 잘 기억하게 하기 위해서가 아니라 학문을 직접 경험할 수 있도록 기존의 학교를 개선하는 것이다. 학문은 세계를 이해함으로써 세계와 열린 관계를 맺는 것을 본연의 일로 삼기 때문이다. Now we Korean live in a huge pluralized and organized group, in which most of people experience alienation and wish to live as a subject with neighbours. And somebody try to solve the problem of alienation and to exist by making a separate community group. Alternative school and educational community movements are on the same line. But they do not solve the problem. This results from the inadequate concept of community that community is a real separate group and composed on the base of the sameness of a community members. In the case of the Sahndle elementary school, community is not composed on the base of the sameness of the members but the difference, and is not a real separate group but an aspect of a group. People experience society when they meet others self-oriented way, and experience community when meet others other-oriented way. The fore one forms a closed relationship and the late one forms a open relationship. When the members understand each other they compose an open relationship and exist as a subject, and become another selves and feel common tie each other. This means that open relationship is an 'education', and 'community' is an 'educational community'. In the human world, the society and community is necessary in order to keep the human world go on. In the aspect of society man can survive stable, though he is alienated. In the aspect of community man can not be free from insecurity, though he can exist. In this sense, man and the human world is bilateral. If one of these sides is weak or preponderant, man and human world becomes alienated or lose stability, and falls into the crisis of being. So man tries to recover balance between them. The community movement or alternative education movement is the effort to recover the weaken community aspect, that is, education in Korea. In this point of view, the way to recover community in the huge pluralized and organized group is not to make a separate community group or make an alternative school, but to provide people with the profound chance and place to form an open relationship each other. Improving schools in that students do science by themselves rather than remember the result of science merely is one of the ways.
