국문 초록

한국전쟁은 단순히 군사적 충돌이 아니었다. 이는 수많은 생명 손실과 한반도 전체의 파괴를 초래한 국가적 비극이었으며, 냉전 시대의 상징적인 충돌이기도 했다. 전쟁 기간 동안 전 세계 각국에서 파견된 전쟁 특파원들은 전선의 혹독한 현실과 그로 인한 인도주의적 위기를 기사, 사진, 영상 등 다양한 형태로 보도해 자국에서 출판되었다. 특히 사진은 전쟁을 직접 목격할 수 없는 대중에게 전장의 끔찍한 현실을 생생하게 전달하는 강력한 매체였다. 튀르키예 종군기자들은 한국 주택과 생활 방식이 매우 이국적이라고 느꼈다. 그들은 특히 미닫이문, 종이 창문, 화려한 벽지, 분뇨 항아리 등 전통적인 자원 활용 방식과 바닥에 앉아 먹고 자는 독특한 바닥 좌식문화에 깊은 인상을 받았다. 때로는 이러한 풍습을 이상하거나 낯선 것으로 보기도 했지만, 이 과정에서 문화적 다양성과 상대주의에 대한 인식을 보여주었다. 음식 문화 기사에서 튀르키예 군인들의 한국 음식에 대한 두려움과 경계심, 동시에 호기심과 놀라움이 드러난다. 쥐 고기 같은 재료에 대한 소문 때문에 현지 음식에 대해 조심스러워했지만, 새로운 요리 방법과 재료에 관심도 보였다. 전쟁 중에도 종군기자들은 한국인들의 따뜻함과 환대, 단순한 식사 풍습, 그리고 음식 통해 표현되는 ‘정’과 환대의 중요성에 감동받았다. 결국, 한국에서 활동한 튀르키예 종군기자들의 기록은 단순한 정보 전달을 넘어 문화적 다리 역할을 하며, 전쟁의 참상과 한국에서의 일상생활 및 문화에 대한 포괄적인 통찰을 튀르키예 대중에게 제공했다. 그들의 기사 및 사진은 튀르키예 독자들이 낯선 문화를 새로운 시각으로 바라볼 수 있게 했으며, 이는 전쟁을 통해 이루어진 문화 간 소통의 중요한 사례로 평가될 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Korean War was not just a military conflict; it was a national tragedy that resulted in the loss of many lives and the destruction of the entire Korean Peninsula. It was also a symbolic clash of the Cold War era. During the war, war correspondents dispatched from countries all over the world reported on the harsh realities of the front lines and the resulting humanitarian crisis in various forms, such as articles, photographs and videos, for publication in their home countries. Photographs in particular were a powerful medium for vividly conveying the horrors of the battlefield to a public unable to witness the war firsthand. Turkish war correspondents found Korean houses and ways of life very exotic. They were particularly impressed by the traditional use of resources such as sliding doors, paper windows, colourful wallpaper and manure jars, as well as the unique floor-seating culture of sitting and sleeping on the floor. Sometimes, they viewed these customs as strange or unfamiliar, displaying an awareness of cultural diversity and relativism in the process. In articles about food culture, Turkish soldiers' feelings of fear and wariness towards Korean food, alongside curiosity and amazement, are evident. Due to rumours about ingredients such as rat meat, they were cautious of local food, yet they also showed interest in new cooking methods and ingredients. Even during wartime, war correspondents were touched by the warmth and hospitality of the Korean people, their simple dining customs, and the importance of 'jeong' (a sense of affection and attachment) and the hospitality expressed through food. Ultimately, the records of Turkish war correspondents in Korea went beyond the mere transmission of information, serving as a cultural bridge and providing the Turkish public with a comprehensive insight into both the horrors of war and everyday life and culture in Korea, even amidst conflict. Their articles and photographs enabled Turkish readers to view unfamiliar cultures in a new light, and they can be regarded as an important example of cross-cultural communication through war.
