수형자들의 불안이 자살실행력에 미치는 영향:공격성의 매개효과

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 교도소 내의 수형자들의 불안이 자살실행력에 독립적으로 영향을 미치는지 이해하고 나아가 그들의 관계에서 공격성이 매개효과를 가지는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 불안, 공격성, 자살실행력의 구조적 관계를 검증하였다. P-교도소의 수형자 500명을 대상으로 수집한 자료를 SPSS 25.0를 활용하여 매개효과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째 불안은 독립적으로 자살실행력에 유의미하게 영향을 미치지 않았다. 둘째, 불안과 자살실행력의 관계에서 공격성이 함께 고려되었을 때, 불안은 공격성에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 공격성은 자살실행력에 유의미한 영향을 주었다. 셋째, 공격성은 불안과 자살실행력의 관계에서 매개효과를 가져서 불안은 자살실행력을 설명함에 있어 공격성을 통한 간접효과를 가졌다. 마지막으로 공격성을 함께 고려했을 때 불안은 자살실행력에 부(-)적 직접효과를 가졌다. 본 연구는 교정 환경에서는 수형자들의 불안이 자살실행력에 미치는 매커니즘을 연구하였다. 결론적으로 교정 환경에서는 일반인들 연구에서 높은 불안이 자살실행력에 영향을 미치는 기존의 대부분의 연구결과와는 다르게 공격성이 통제되었을 때에는 독립적으로는 자살실행력을 오히려 억제하는 역할을 한다는 점을 발견한 것에 의의가 있다. 반면 불안이 공격성을 발현하는 경우는 자살실행력에 정(+)적 영향을 주었다. 이는 교정 환경에서의 자살을 줄이기 위하여 불안을 고려할 때 일반인들과는 다른 관점에서 생각해 볼 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether anxiety independently influences the acquired capability for suicide among prisoners and to examine whether aggression mediates the relationship between anxiety and acquired capability for suicide. Structural relationships among anxiety, aggression, and acquired capability for suicide were analyzed using data collected from 500 inmates at P Prison in South Korea. Mediation analysis was conducted with SPSS 25.0. The results were as follows: (1) Anxiety did not have a statistically significant direct effect on acquired capability for suicide. (2) When aggression was included in the model, anxiety had a significant positive effect on aggression, which in turn had a significant positive effect on acquired capability for suicide. (3) Aggression demonstrated a mediating effect in the relationship between anxiety and acquired capability for suicide, indicating that anxiety indirectly increased acquired capability for suicide through aggression. (4) Notably, when aggression was included as a mediator, the direct effect of anxiety on acquired capability for suicide became negative. Unlike previous studies on the general population, this research explored the mechanisms linking anxiety and acquired capability for suicide among inmates in a prison setting. The findings suggest that within prison settings, when aggression is controlled, anxiety may actually inhibit the acquired capability for suicide. These results underscore the need for targeted psychological interventions to reduce suicide risk among inmates in correctional facilities.
