국문 초록

본 연구는 교정 행정의 문제로 인식되고 있는 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도가 재범 원인에 대한 사회과정과 심리·생물학적 귀인양식, 교화 가능성에 대한 대중의 인식에 따라 차이가 나타나는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 국내에 거주하는 20세 이상의 성인을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 진행하였으며, 172명의 응답을 분석에 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 교화 가능성에 대한 인식이 높아질수록 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도가 긍정적으로 나타났다. 한편 재범 원인에 대한 사회과정과 심리·생물학적 귀인양식 모두 그 자체로는 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 사회과정 귀인양식과 교화 가능성의 상호작용 효과가 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도에 유의미한 경향성을 보였다. 이는 사회과정 귀인 성향이 높을수록 교화 가능성에 대한 인식이 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도에 미치는 긍정적 효과가 더욱 강화됨을 시사한다. 이러한 결과는 재범의 원인에 대한 귀인양식보다 교화 가능성에 대한 인식이 수형자의 사회복귀에 대한 태도 형성에 더 핵심적인 역할을 하며, 특히 재범의 사회적 원인에 주목하는 대중에게서 그 효과가 두드러짐을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to examine whether public attitudes toward the reintegration of offenders—an issue of ongoing concern in correctional administration—differ depending on attributional styles regarding recidivism (i.e., social process versus psychological/biological attributions) and perceptions of rehabilitative potential. An online survey was administered to adults aged 20 and above residing in South Korea, and responses from 172 participants were analyzed. The results indicated that higher perceptions of rehabilitative potential were associated with more positive attitudes toward offender reintegration. While neither social process nor psychological/biological attributions alone significantly predicted reintegration attitudes, a significant interaction effect emerged: the positive effect of perceived rehabilitative potential on reintegration attitudes was stronger among individuals who endorsed higher levels of social process attributions. These findings suggest that perceptions of rehabilitative potential play a more central role than causal attributions in shaping public attitudes toward offender reintegration, particularly among those who emphasize the social causes of recidivism.
