조선 반도 최초의 관광잡지 『관광조선』 연구 : 소비되는 조선 반도의 문화 코드를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 일제강점기에 국책사업(대륙경영)으로 만들어진 『관광조선(觀光朝鮮)』잡지 발행의 취지와 대중(집필자, 독자)들의 시선의 접점에서 조선 반도의 인상이 어떠한 방식으로 재생산되어 소비되었는지를 고찰하였다. 잡지는 명칭에 맞게 당시 식민지였던 조선 반도로의 여행에 관한 내용이 많으며, 이 시기의 여행에 관한 정보는 조선 반도의 경제, 사회, 문화적인 다각도의 상황에 관한 내용을 제공하는 것이 주류였다. 이러한 다양한 조선 반도의 상황을 일본인들의 시선으로 드러내고자 했던 목적은 바로 내선일체의 필요성과 확장된 제국으로서의 조선 반도를 보고자 했던 국책사업이 있었다. 이에 모든 일본의 국민이 반도의 사정에 대해 명확하게 알 필요성이 있었기 때문에 조선 반도의 문화와 생활상에 깊이 관여하고자 잡지를 발행했던 것이다. 지금까지의 일제강점기의 일상생활에 관한 국내 연구들은 지배를 받던 조선의 시선에 의지한 채, 근대에 식민지성이 혼재함을 드러내는 데에 치중하고 식민지 지배와 민족말살정책 그에 대응하는 저항 속에 문화의 변용된 측면으로 연구되어왔다. 그러나 본 연구를 통해서 잡지 발행의 취지와 내용이 당시 재조일본인들이 직접 체험한 조선 반도의 생활상을 그들의 시선으로 재생산된 문화 코드로 구체화 되었고, 조선의 지리적 가치(인적, 물적 자원)에 대해 일본의 모든 국민이 알아야 함을 강조하기 위한 작업으로서 조선 반도의 역사를 비롯하여 ‘조선 반도의 문화를 소비’하고 ‘선전하는 장치’로 담당했음을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study examined how the impression of the Korean Peninsula was reproduced and consumed at the point of view of the public (author and reader) and the purpose of publishing a “Tourism Chosun” magazine created as a national project (continental management) during the Japanese colonial period. Magazines have a lot of contents related to travel to the Korean Peninsula, which was then a colony, according to the name, and information on travel during this period mainly provided information on economic, social, and cultural conditions on the Korean Peninsula. The purpose of expressing these various situations on the Korean Peninsula from the perspective of the Japanese was the need for integration of extensions and national policy projects to look at the Korean Peninsula as an expanded empire. In response, all Japanese citizens needed to know clearly about the situation on the peninsula, so they published a magazine to be deeply involved in the culture and lifestyle of the Korean Peninsula. Japan's domestic research on daily life during the colonial period has been studied in cultural transformations in response to colonial rule and ethnic elimination policies, focusing on expressing a mixture of colonial intelligence in modern times, while relying on the perspective of Joseon. However, through this study, the purpose and content of the magazine were embodied in the cultural code reproduced by the Japanese at the time, and it was found that it was in charge of “consumption of Korean culture” and “promotion device” to emphasize that all Japanese people should know about the geographical value (human and material resources) of Korea.
