군상극으로 재현된 역사 컨텐츠 영웅 서사 연구 : 미타니 고키 극본 NHK 대하드라마 <사나다마루(真田丸)>를 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 미타니 고키가 극본을 맡은 NHK 대하드라마 <사나다마루>(2016)를 중심으로, 대하드라마라는 장르에 도입된 군상극 서사 구조의 특징과 그 가능성에 대해 고찰한 글이다. 그는 ‘역사의 패자’를 주인공으로 삼고, 개인이 아닌 집단에 조명을 비추는 ‘군상극’의 서사 구조를 통해 대하드라마의 기존 문법에서 변화를 시도하였다. 그가 극본을 맡은 <신선조!>, <사나다마루>, <가마쿠라님의 13인>은 모두 역사적 패자 혹은 복잡한 권력 지형에 속한 인물들을 중심에 두고 그들의 몰락과 갈등, 분열의 서사를 통해 일본의 역사적 인물을 집단에 속한 한 개인이라는 다른 각도에서 조명한다. 특히 <사나다마루>는 일본 제일의 무사라는 영웅으로 알려진 ‘사나다 유키무라’의 무용담을 중심으로 이야기를 끌어가는 것이 아닌, 아버지 마사유키와 형 노부유키, 그리고 노부시게라는 군소 가문의 삼부자로 이루어진 삼인 군상극의 구조를 통해 인간 ‘사나다 노부시게’가 가진 평범성을 극대화하였다. 이와 같이 역사 컨텐츠에 도입된 군상극의 서사 전략은 그동안 영웅으로 조명되던 인물의 일상성과 인간적인 면모를 발견하게 하고, 나아가 ‘영웅’의 의미를 다시 성찰하게 만든다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 군상극으로 재현된 영웅 서사는, 역사라는 거대한 흐름 속에서 한 인물의 영웅적 면모를 부각하기보다는 집단 속에서 개인이 처한 위치와 그 선택의 의미에 주목하게 만드는 서사 구조를 유도한다는 점에서 역사를 새로운 관점으로 조명하고자 할 때 유효한 문법이 될 수 있다. 또한 이러한 방식은 역사적 위인의 업적에 주목하기 쉬운 영웅 서사에서 탈선하여 인물의 인간성과 시대적 맥락을 입체적으로 드러낼 수 있기에, 앞으로의 역사 컨텐츠 장르가 나아갈 방향성에 새로운 서사적 가능성을 제시한다는 점에서 중요한 함의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the narrative structure and potential of the ensemble story format as applied to the NHK historical drama Sanadamaru(2016) scripted by Mitani Kōki. Departing from the traditional focus on heroic individuals, Mitani emphasizes collective dynamics and the experiences of historical losers by placing marginalized figures at the center of his works. His trilogy of NHK Epic Drama series-Shinsengumi!, Sanadamaru, and The 13 Lords of the Shogun-collectively illustrate his narrative strategy of exploring personal downfall, conflict, and disintegration within a broader historical context. These dramas depict historical figures not as solitary heroes but as individuals embedded in complex group relationships and political entanglements. In particular, Sanadamaru reframes the legendary warrior ‘Sanada Yukimura’ not through conventional tales of heroism, but as ‘Sanada Nobushige’, a man defined by his relationships with his father Masayuki and his elder brother Nobuyuki. Through a tripartite ensemble structure centered on this lesser-known family, Mitani foregrounds Nobushige’s ordinariness rather than his posthumously constructed heroism. This approach allows for a more intimate and humanized portrayal of the historical figure, inviting viewers to reconsider the ‘meaning of hero’ and to appreciate the everyday struggles that define historical lives. By shifting focus from the grandeur of individual achievements to the nuances of human relationships within historical currents, Mitani’s ensemble narrative offers a compelling alternative to conventional hero-centric storytelling. It presents a valuable narrative grammar for contemporary historical content, highlighting individual subjectivity and emotional realism. Ultimately, this structure opens up new possibilities for historical fiction, encouraging more complex and resonant portrayals of the past.
