국문 초록

본고의 주요 목적은 한자가 현대 사회에서 어떻게 재해석되고 있으며 이를 통해 한자의 문화적 정체성이 어떻게 변화하거나 유지되고 있는지를 분석하는 것이다. 한자는 오랜 세월 동안 동아시아 문화의 정체성을 형성하는 핵심 요소로 자리 잡아 왔으며, 특히 언어와 문자의 기능을 넘어서는 상징적 의미를 지니고 있다. 그러나 현대 사회에서 한자는 단순한 의사소통의 도구를 넘어 대중 매체, 상업적 디자인, 브랜드 마케팅 등에서 강력한 문화적 상징으로 사용되고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 이러한 한자의 현대적 역할과 재해석 과정을 탐구함으로써, 한자의 문화적 정체성이 어떻게 현대 사회에서 재구성되고 있는지에 대한 구체적인 답을 찾고자 한다. 이 과정에서 한자가 동아시아 사회뿐만 아니라 글로벌 사회에서도 어떠한 의미를 갖고 있는지, 그리고 한자의 전통적 가치가 현대적 콘텐츠 속에서 어떻게 변형되고 수용되는지에 대한 이해를 넓힐 것이다. 또한 한자의 문화적 상징성과 정체성이 현대적 콘텐츠 및 미디어 환경에서 어떻게 보존되고 발전할 수 있는지를 제시함으로써 한자 문화의 지속 가능성에 대한 논의를 촉진할 것이다.

영문 초록

The primary aim of this paper is to analyze how Chinese characters are reinterpreted in modern society and to examine how this process affects the cultural identity of Chinese characters, whether through change or continuity. Chinese characters have long been a central element in shaping East Asian cultural identity, carrying symbolic significance that transcends their linguistic and written functions. In contemporary society, however, Chinese characters have evolved beyond being mere tools of communication; they are now powerful cultural symbols used in mass media, commercial design, and brand marketing. This paper seeks to explore the modern roles and reinterpretation processes of Chinese characters, aiming to answer how their cultural identity is being reconstructed in today’s society. Through this analysis, it will also broaden understanding of the significance of Chinese characters not only in East Asian societies but also within a global context. Furthermore, it will delve into how the traditional values of Chinese characters are transformed and embraced within modern content. By examining how the cultural symbolism and identity of Chinese characters can be preserved and developed in contemporary media environments, this paper will promote discussions on the sustainability of Chinese character culture.
