국문 초록

본 연구는 생명공학 기술 발전이 인간 본질과 정체성에 미치는 영향을 탐 구하고, 트랜스휴머니즘과 포스트휴머니즘을 중심으로 기술 변화가 인간의 근본적인 속성을 어떻게 변화시키는지 분석합니다. 트랜스휴머니즘은 인간 의 가소성과 개방성을 강조하고, 인간 향상 기술을 통해 능력을 극대화하려 는 목표를 가지고 있습니다. 그러나 이에 대한 비판도 존재하며, 생명주의자 들은 인간의 유한성과 제한된 존재가 인간 경험의 본질이라고 주장하며, 트 랜스휴머니즘적 접근이 인간 본질을 훼손할 수 있다고 경고합니다. 반면, 포스트휴머니즘은 인간과 비인간 존재 사이의 경계를 허물고 상호 연결성을 강조합니다. 도나 해러웨이는 포스트휴머니즘을 인간과 비인간 존 재의 관계를 재구성하는 과정으로 보고, 이를 통해 인간 향상 기술을 새로운 시각에서 이해하려 합니다. 유럽교회총회(KEK)의 문서는 기술적 독창성을 인정하면서도 인간 향상 기술에 비판적인 견해를 보이며, “좋은” 유한성과 “나쁜” 유한성의 구분에 한계를 지적합니다. 결국, 인간 향상 기술에 대한 논의는 단순한 찬반 논쟁을 넘어, 인간 본질, 기술의 역할, 그리고 미래에 대한 철학적이고 윤리적인 질문을 제기합니다. 각 관점은 인간 존재의 의미와 기술 발전의 방향에 대해 중요한 통찰을 제공 하며, 우리가 직면한 새로운 현실을 이해하는 데 중요한 역할을 합니다.

영문 초록

This study explores the impact of advances in biotechnology on human essence and identity, analyzing how technological changes reshape fundamental human characteristics through the lens of transhumanism and posthumanism. Transhumanism emphasizes human malleability and openness, aiming to enhance human capabilities through technological advancements. However, there is also criticism of this approach. Bioconservatives argue that human finitude and limitations are intrinsic to human experience, warning that the pursuit of technological perfection in transhumanist thinking could undermine true human nature. In contrast, posthumanism seeks to dismantle the boundaries between human and non-human entities, emphasizing interconnectedness. According to Donna Haraway, posthumanism goes beyond technological achievements, viewing them as part of a process of reconstructing the relationship between humans and nonhumans. The document of the European Church Assembly (KEK) acknowledges technological creativity but takes a critical stance toward human enhancement technologies, pointing out the limitations in distinguishing between “good” and “bad” finitude. Ultimately, the discussion of human enhancement technologies goes beyond a simple debate of support or opposition, raising profound philosophical and ethical questions about human nature, the role of technology, and our future. Each perspective provides valuable insights into the meaning of human existence and the direction of technological progress, playing a crucial role in understanding the new realities we face.
