농인의 가족사별 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 일반적 가족 범주에서 쉽게 드러나지 않는 농인의 가족에 관해 주목하였으며, 그중에서도 특히 가족사별 경험의 본질적 의미를 심층적으로 탐구하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 가족사별 경험이 있는 농인 3명을 연구참여자로 엄선하여 각각 2회 이상의 심층 면담을 실시했다. 수집한 자료는 Giorgi(1985)의 현상학적 질적 연구의 방식에 따라 그 내용과 의미를 분석했다. 분석결과, 농인의 가족사별 경험은 12개의 드러난 주제, 4개의 본질적 주제와 함께 밝혀졌다. 그중 본질적 주제는 ‘가족의 역사에 참여하지 못해 미궁에 빠짐’, ‘음성언어 가득한 장례 공간에서 잊고 있던 장애가 되살아남’, ‘소리 없는 세상에서 짐을 나누어지던 내 편을 잃음’, ‘수어와 가족 의지하며 조금씩 회복하는 삶의 의욕’으로 확인되었다. 이러한 내용을 최종적으로 구조화해 발견한 중심주제는 ‘움츠러든 손 붙잡아준 가족이라는 이름 앞에 다시 일으키는 생(生)’과 같았다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 가족사별에 따른 어려움을 겪는 농인의 심리 정서적 지원과 교육 및 제도적 개선 등을 위해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

While noting the family of the Deaf, who are not well represented in the general categories of families, this study delves into the underlying meaning behind their family bereavement experiences. Accordingly, this study selected three Deaf individuals who had experienced the death of a family member, and conducted two or more in-depth interviews with each of the participants. The collected data were analyzed for content and meaning based on Giorgi’s (1985) qualitative research method of phenomenology. The analysis established 12 surface and 4 underlying topics from family bereavement experiences by Deaf individuals. The underlying topics included ‘Trapped in a labyrinth as I could not participate in the history of my own family,’ ‘My forgotten disabilities re-emerged in a funeral space full of spoken language,’ ‘Losing my ally who shared my burden in a soundless world,’ and ‘Regaining enthusiasm for life little by little by relying on sign language and family.’ Structuring the content revealed the key topic was ‘Lives rejuvenating in the name of the family that held withdrawn hands.’ Based on these findings, this study suggested providing psychological and mental support to the Deaf who will experience difficulties due to the death of a family member and making educational and institutional improvements.
