국문 초록

본 연구는 재한 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 자아존중감과 문화적응스트레스의 관련성을 살펴보 고, 상호문화감수성의 매개효과를 검증함으로써 유학생의 안정적인 문화적응을 위한 심리적 보호 요인을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 394명의 중국 학부 유학생을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 실시 하였고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS 27.0과 Process Macro를 활용해 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 자아존중 감은 문화적응스트레스에 유의한 직접효과를 나타냈으며 상호문화감수성은 이 관계에서 부분매개 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 높은 자아존중감은 문화적응스트레스의 직접적인 보호요인임과 동시에 상호문화감수성을 높임으로써 간접적으로도 문화적응스트레스를 완화하는 데 기여함을 알 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 유학생의 심리적 자원인 자아존중감과 상호문화감수성을 사전에 진단하 고 파악한 후에 향상하는 방안에 대한 다양한 논의가 필요함을 시사한다. 이에 본 연구는 외국인 유학생의 한국 적응에 있어서 그들의 문화적 역량을 중심으로 다루었다는 점에서 기존 연구와 차 별화되며, 향후 유학생의 적응과 지원을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study investigated psychological protective factors that facilitate stable cultural adaptation among international students, with a focus on the relationship between self-esteem and acculturative stress, and the mediating role of intercultural sensitivity. An online survey was administered to 394 Chinese undergraduate students enrolled in Korean universities. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and the PROCESS Macro (Model 4). The results indicated that self-esteem exerted a significant negative effect on acculturative stress, both directly and indirectly through intercultural sensitivity, which functioned as a partial mediator. These findings suggest that high self-esteem not only directly mitigates acculturative stress but also indirectly reduces it by fostering greater intercultural sensitivity. The study underscores the importance of enhancing international students’ psychological resources—specifically self-esteem and intercultural sensitivity—as part of cultural adaptation support strategies. By highlighting cultural competence as a key mechanism in the adaptation process, this research provides a differentiated contribution to the literature and offers foundational evidence to inform future interventions for international students adjusting to Korean society.
