본 연구는 인공지능(AI) 기술의 도입으로 박물관의 기능 구조와 사회적 역할의변화와 이에 따른 교육적 함의를 고찰하였다. 박물관 운영, 소장품 관리, 연구, 전시, 교육·소통의 다섯 가지 기능별 AI 활용 사례를 분석한 결과, 박물관의 데이터 기반운영, 기능 간 융합, 협업 구조 재편 등 내부 구조의 변화와 더불어 관람자 중심성과참여성 확대, 접근성 및 포용성 강화, 문화 간 연결성 및 지속가능발전의 가치 반영등 사회적 역할에도 영향을 미치고 있었다. 특히 이러한 변화는 ICOM(2022)이제시한 박물관 정의의 가치와도 밀접하게 연결된다. 아울러 교육 관점에서는 참여적의미 생성, 사회적 주제의 교육 콘텐츠화, 창작과 예술교육의 확장 가능성, 기술윤리 수용 등 새로운 교육 실천의 장을 열고 있었다. 본 연구는 박물관의 AI 활용이기능적 혁신을 넘어 교육적·사회적 전환을 이끄는 핵심 요인임을 밝히며, 기술 수용과가치 지향적 실천이 통합된 박물관의 미래 지향적 역할을 제시하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption on the functional structure and social roles of museums, as well as the educational implications thereof. By analyzing AI utilization cases across five key museum functions—operations, collection management, research, exhibition, and education/communication—the study identifies structural transformations such as data-driven operations, functional convergence, and the reorganization of collaborative systems. Simultaneously, AI influences museums' external roles by enhancing visitor-centered engagement, improving accessibility and inclusivity, and integrating values of intercultural dialogue and sustainable development. These shifts align closely with the values outlined in the ICOM (2022) museum definition. From an educational perspective, AI fosters participatory meaning-making, the incorporation of social issues into educational content, the expansion of creative and art-based learning, and the pedagogical engagement with technological ethics. This study argues that AI serves not only as a driver of functional innovation but also as a catalyst for educational and social transformation, proposing a futureoriented role for museums that integrates technological adoption with value-oriented practice.
