지산(志山) 김복한(金福漢)의 항일우국시 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 한말 독립운동가 지산(志山) 김복한(金福漢, 1860~1924)의 한시를 통해 그의 항일 의식과 절의 정신을 조명하고자 하는 의도에서 시작되었다. 김복한은 선조 선원(仙源) 김상용(金尙容)의 절개와 남당(南塘) 한원진(韓元震)의 사상을 계승한 학자로, 1895년 홍주의병을 주도하고 1919년 파리장서운동을 전개하는 등 평생을 항일 독립투쟁에 힘쓴 인물이다. 『지산집(志山集)』에는 이러한 그의 독립 정신과 강직한 신념이 잘 담겨있다. 따라서 본고는 그간 알려지지 않았던 필사본 『지산집』 자료를 새롭게 소개하고, 이를 목활자본 및 연활자본과 비교하여 각각의 특징과 편찬 과정을 고찰하였다. 그 결과 목활자본은 필사본을 저본으로 하여, 해방 직후 민족의식을 고취하려는 시대적 요구에 따라 김복한의 항일 의식과 절의를 강조하는 작품 위주로 선별·편찬되었음을 확인하였다. 김복한의 항일우국시는 크게 세 가지 특징을 보인다. 첫째, 잦은 투옥과 고난 속에서도 시를 통해 굳건한 항일 독립 의지를 표출하였다. 둘째, 망국의 현실에 대한 비판적 성찰과 함께 희망을 잃지 않으려는 의지를 시에 담아내었다. 셋째, 안중근, 김석진 등 애국지사들의 희생정신을 기리고 친일파들의 변절을 비판하며 당대 역사의 단면을 문학적으로 증언하였다. 이처럼 김복한의 시는 단순한 개인적 감정의 토로를 넘어, 일제 강점기라는 시대의 아픔과 민족의 염원을 담아낸 역사적 기록물이자 시대상을 생생하게 증언하는 문학작품으로서 가치를 지닌다. 나아가 그의 문학은 일제 강점기 저항 문학의 한 축을 담당하며 한국 근대 문학사의 중요한 일부로 자리매김할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to illuminate the anti-Japanese consciousness and spirit of integrity of Jisan Kim Bok-han (1860-1924), a Korean independence activist during the late Joseon period, through his classical Korean poetry. Kim Bok-han, who inherited the integrity of his ancestor Seonwon Kim Sang-yong and the ideology of Namdang Han Won-jin, was a scholar who devoted his life to the anti-Japanese independence struggle, leading the Hongju Righteous Army in 1895 and developing the Paris Peace Conference petition movement in 1919. His collection Jisanjip (志山集) clearly embodies his spirit of independence and unwavering convictions. This paper introduces previously unknown handwritten manuscripts of Jisanjip and examines the characteristics and compilation process of its various editions by comparing the woodblock and lead type editions. The research confirms that the woodblock edition, which is based on hand-copied manuscripts, was selectively compiled immediately after the Korean independence to encourage national conscisousness around works that emphasize Kim Bok-han’s anti-Japanese consciousness and integrity. The anti-Japanese patriotic poetry of Kim Bok-han demonstrates three main characteristics. First, despite frequent imprisonment and hardships, Kim Bok-han expressed his firm will for anti-Japanese independence through poetry. Second, he incorporated critical reflection regarding the reality of a lost nation while maintaining the determination to stay hopeful. Third, he commemorated the sacrificial spirit of patriots like Ahn Jung-geun and Kim Seok-jin while criticizing the betrayal of Japan-collaborators, thus providing literary testimony to aspects of contemporary history. The poetry of Kim Bok-han transcends mere personal expression to become historical documents and literary works that vividly depict the era, capturing the pain of the Japanese colonial period and the aspirations of the Korean people. Furthermore, his literature represents an important component of the resistance literature during the Japanese occupation period and can be positioned as a significant part of modern Korean literary history.
