호암 문일평의 차문화사적 위치

국문 초록

본고는 ‘조선심(朝鮮心)’을 강조했던 민족주의 사학자인 문일평(文一平)의 차문화사적 위치를 조명한 것이다. 문일평은 19-20세기의 차인으로 19세기의 한국 차인과 차문화에 관련된 연구는 많이 진행되었는데 비해 일제강점기인 20세기 초, 문일평은 그의 문집인 『호암전집』에 그간 조사ㆍ연구한 우리나라의 차문화사를 ｢차고사(茶故事)｣로 엮어 기록하고 있다. ｢차고사｣는 국학문 혼용체로 세로쓰기 형태이다. 본문 내에서는 원전을 번역하지 않고 그대로 인용하거나 간혹 불분명한 출처도 보이고 있는 단점이 있다. 그러나 일제강점기라는 시대상을 감안할 때, 이러한 점은 관용의 미덕을 적용해도 좋을 것이다. 문일평의 차문화사적 위치를 정리해 보면 첫째, 그는 한국학에 대한 탁견으로 한국차문화사의 정리를 최초로 시도하였다. 둘째, 주체적 문화관을 가진 학자가 제기한 차문화사 정리이다. 셋째, 사학의 시각에서 역사적 전개순서에 의해 차문화사를 정리하였다. 이와 같은 차문화사적 위치가 노정되기 위해서는 분명한 문헌적 근거가 있어야 하고 그것이 곧 ｢차고사｣인 셈이다. ｢차고사｣에는 17가지 테마가 역사적 전개 순으로 배열되어 있고 각 내용은 모두 문헌에 바탕하여 논증되어 있다. 문일평은 ｢차고사｣를 통해 우리 민족이 왜 차에 대해 무지했고, 차가 산업화되지 못했는가를 밝히고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the cloistered tea culture of Moon, Ilpyung, one of the leading nationalist historians who emphasized the unique feature of Joseon called Joseonsim (朝鮮心). Though there has been plenty of research work focusing on the characteristic of tea culture (茶文化) and tea drinkers (茶人) of nineteenth and twentieth century, but the Hoam Collected Work of Moon Ilpyung is a leading literary sources, which explores the comprehensive history that is intertwined with the Korean cultural history of ‘Tea Apoptosis’ (茶故事) which developed throughout the Japanese colonial period and in twentieth century. The Tea Apoptosis is a classical and mixture style technique of vertical writing. The quotations are intact and within the textual format of the original text which are not translated, but it have shortcomings and seldom ambiguous sources appear. However, given the phases of the times, the development of such notions are pleasant even with the virtue of intolerance of Japanese colonialism. For summarizing the position of the private tea house and tea culture cherished by Moon Ilpyung, firstly he was the foremost Korean studies scholar who attempted to consolidate the history of tea culture in Korea. Secondly, he was a scholar with the independent cultural center and who brought forward the classified history of tea culture. Thirdly, the history of tea culture was systematized in historical perspective and through the deployment sequence. One must have a distinct textual foundation for a sagacity of history of tea culture, and for such reasons he was certainly a cultural man. The Tea Apoptosis’ (茶故事) contains methods of the tea tests and seventeen kinds of themes that are arranged in sequence with historical evolution, and each theme validated with the sound sources and are circumstantial. Appropriately, it exposes why the tea industry did not develop and how our people ignored the tea culture and procedure advanced by Moon Ilpyung.
