특수교육학에서 현상학적 연구방법의 특징

국문 초록

근대 학문의 위기감에서 탄생한 현상학처럼, 교육학의 질적 연구방법론 중의 하나인 현상학적 연구방법의 배경에는 실증주의 및 자연주의적 연구방법이 내걸었던 합리성과 정확성의 허구와 한계에 대한 인식이 바탕하고 있다. 특히 특수교육 연구에 있어서 현상학적 연구방법은 소위 “장애로 인한 문제행동에 대한” 양적인 접근으로 인해 드러나지 않았거나 제외되었던 인간 행동의 다차원성과 그 주관적 의미들을 밝혀내는데 기여하며, 나아가 특수교육적 맥락에서 상호 주관적 관계, 나아가 인간 행동에 대한 총체적 이해를 가능케 한다. 현상학적 연구방법에 대한 실증주의적 비판에도 불구하고 본 연구방법이 특수교육학에 기여하게 되는 학문적 풍부함을 위해 본 논문에서는 현상학적 교육연구 방법의 핵심적 특징을 “현상학적 환원”과 “본질직관”이란 절차 중심으로 구체적 사례를 통해 소개했으며, 이러한 접근이 특히 중증장애 아동과의 교육에 제시하는 윤리적 시사점을 논의했다.

영문 초록

How the phenomenology as philosophy originated from the need of modern science, the phenomenological research method in the pedagogy as one of the famous qualitative method is based on the understanding that the positivism and the naturalism reach at the ethical borders with their theoretical nature and could not put in a claim for any absoluteness as research method. The phenomenological approach is especially capable to discover the overlooked multiple dimensions of human behaviors. It is certain that the special educational research in its quantitative orientation disregarded the behavior facets of human being and their subjective meaning of people with severe disabilities and reduces these people to their disabilities and problem behavior. The phenomenological method points out the inter subject relationship in the special educational context and makes integral understanding of the human behavior possible. Despite the critic on the part of the positivism of the phenomenological method, this work assumes that this method can enrich the special education in Korea enormously. For this, the central points of this method, “phenomenological reduction” and “essential intuition” are described closer and clarified with the help of concrete example. Furthermore, it is pointed out the ethical consequences of this method on the education of children with severe disabilities.
