청각장애학생의 산술 문장제 해결 능력에 대한 연구

국문 초록

언어와 수학 성취도와의 관계에 대한 특별한 연구들은 독해능력과 수학적 계산 기능을 결합한 형태인 산술 문장제에 대한 연구로 수행되었다. 산술 문장제의 경우 문장으로 제시된 문제를 아동의 개념 지식 구조에 표상하고 수학적 계산 기능과 관련시켜야 하지만 문장제에 나타난 언어적 특성에 따라 아동들이 어려움을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 언어 능력이 부족한 청각 장애아동의 경우 건청아동에 비해 산술 문장제 해결 능력에서 지체를 보일 것이라고 예상된다. 따라서 문장제의 유형, 즉 변화, 비교, 그리고 결합형에 있어 청각 장애아동이 나타내는 특성을 건청아동의 문장제 해결 유형과 비교하여 보고, 문장제 해결 과정에서 유발되는 오류의 특성을 살펴봄으로써 청각 장애아동의 산술 문장제 해결 능력에 대한 특성들을 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 건청아동에 비하여 청각장애아동의 문장제 해결능력은 매우 지체되었으며, 청각장애학교급별로 비교하였을 때 초등학생 집단에 비하여 중학생 집단이 보다 높은 해결능력을 나타내었다. 이렇게 청각장애학생들의 문장제 해결능력이 지체된 원인은 문장에 대한 이해력 부족인 것으로 나타났다

영문 초록

This study aimed to examine arithmetic word problems performance of students with hearing impairment. The group of students with hearing impairment under study is composed of two schoolchildren between 8 and 15 years of age. Sixty-one to profoundly hearing impaired students and five hundred one to hearing students were tested on arithmetic word problems. In the present study the subjects were asked to solve linguistically formulated arithmetic problems. A test consisted of the 14 word problems developed by Riley et al(1983). Three types of questions('change,' 'combine,' 'and 'compare.') was used. All questions involved additive of subtractive strategies with numbers where the sum was less than 10. This instrument had a pencil-and-paper format. Testing was supervised by a classroom teacher. The results are following. First, The students with hearing impairment were shown to be delayed in comparison to their hearing peers in attempting the arithmetic problems used in the present study Second, The results reflect the hearing impaired students' better performance on the 'combine' problems than on the 'change' problems and, in particular, the 'compare' problems. Third, The arithmetic word problems errors types of the students with hearing impairment were counting strategy select more than 97%. therefore the hearing impaired students' performance was influenced by the linguistic expression involved.
