영문 초록

This study reports on a syntactic development in expository discourse of two children from family of international marriage migrant women from the Philippines over three years. An investigation on individual and social factors of the two children has been made to analyze and compare the two children's syntactic development from first grade to third grade of their elementary school years. As a result, two children displayed normal syntactic developmental pattern which average elementary students of that age show while there was some difference in the degree and speed of the development between the two children, and syntactic complexity in expository discourse seemed to have a close relationship with the academic achievement at school. The difference between the two children appears to have been caused by the quality and quantity of education before they started school because a child who has a marriage migrant woman as his mother is usually hard to get enough and complete expository discourse input in Korean. This result suggests that children from family of international marriage migrant women should be exposed to enough amount of Korean discourse by a teacher in a public area even before they go to school.
