국문 초록

이 글은 칠곡호국평화기념관에 재현된 전쟁 기억의 양상과 그 의미를 탐색하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이에 서두에서 박물관을 바라보는 방식을 실용적인 관점과 비판적인 접근으로 구분함으로써 해당 연구 대상의 인식론적인 문제를 선행적으로 논의한다. 이를 전제로, 본 연구는 칠곡호국평화기념관을 매개로 파생되는 의미와 이를 둘러싼 권력작용을 인식하기 위해 비판적인 관점을 채택하여 전시 서사를 분석하였다. 구체적으로 박물관 기호학의 접근 방식을 활용하여 기념관의 서사구조를 통합체와 계열체의 차원에서 다루었다. 분석 결과, 전시는 공산화로부터 대한민국을 지켜낸 한국전쟁을 기억하고 이를 통해 되찾은 평화에 감사하며, 이를 가능케 해준 순국선열들의 추모를 강조하고 있었다. 안정 상태가 파괴된 상황을 극복하게 한 낙동강 방어선을 명시하며 이를 둘러싼 칠곡, 호국, 평화에 대한 가치를 함축하고 있는 것이다. 그 과정에서 칠곡호국평화기념관은 한국전쟁을 반공주의라는 정형화된 형태로 재현할 뿐, 참혹했던 과거에 대한 진지한 성찰은 소거시킨다. 나아가 호국의 가치만을 역설하기에 평화를 모색한다는 것에 관한 의미는 퇴색되고 있다. 이러한 점에서 미루어 보았을 때, 전쟁을 기념하는 다양한 문화적 재현을 바라봄에 있어, 단순히 잊지 않는다는 것의 강조를 넘어 어떻게 기억할지에 대한 문제를 다룰 필요성이 제기된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to explore the aspects and meanings of war memories represented in the Chilgok Patriots & Peace Memorial. Therefore, the epistemological problem of the subject of this study is discussed in advance by dividing the way of looking at the museum from a practical perspective and a critical approach. On this premise, this study analyzed the exhibition narrative by adopting a critical perspective to recognize the meaning derived from the Chilgok Patriots & Peace Memorial and the power action surrounding it. Specifically, the narrative structure of Chilgok Patriots & Peace Memorial was dealt with at the level of an paradigme and syntagme using the approach of museum semiotics. As a result of the analysis, the museum’s exhibition emphasized the Memoriality of the martyrs who remembered the Korean War that protected the Republic of Korea from communization and peace that was restored through it. It specifies the Nakdong River defense line that overcame the destruction of the stability state, and implies the values of Chilgok, patriotic, and peace surrounding it. In the process, Chilgok Patriots & Peace Memorial only represents the Korean War in a standardized form of anti-communism and erases serious reflection on the harrowing past. Furthermore, the meaning of seeking peace is fading because it emphasizes only the value of the country. From this point of view, the need to deal with the question of how to emember beyond simply the emphasis on not forgetting is raised in looking at various cultural representations that remember and commemorate the war.
