미국의 유아교육과정 연속성 및 교원자격 분석을 통한 국내 이음교육 방향 탐색: 뉴저지주를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아교육과 초등학교 교육과정 체계가 분리되어 있으나 두 단계 간 교육과정 연속성을 강화 하고 있는 미국 뉴저지주 사례를 분석하여 우리나라 이음교육의 방향 설전과 기초 자료 제공을 목적으 로 한다. 이를 위해 뉴저지주 교육부 교육과정 문서와 지침서, 미국 내 교육과정 연속성 관련 정책 자료, OECD 학술자료 등을 수집하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과 뉴저지주는 0-2세, 3-4세, 5세(K학년)로 구분 된 교육과정 체계를 갖추고 있으며, 뉴저지 조기학습 경로(New Jersey Early Learning Pathway)를 통 해 0-2세와 3-4세 교육과정 간 정렬을 시행하여 발달과 학습 경험의 연속성을 강화하고 있다. 또한 3-4 세 대상의 preschool/Pre-K에서 K학년으로의 교육과정의 연속성과 원활한 전이를 위해 학습 기준을 정렬하고 이를 실행할 수 있는 지침을 마련하였다. 더 나아가 유아교육에서 초등학교 저학년(P-3) 간 연 계 정책을 통해 학년별 교육과정을 정렬(alignment)하는 한편, P-3 교사 자격 요건을 강화함으로써 교 육과정 연속성을 위한 교사 전문성을 강화하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 우리나라 유·초 이음교육을 위해 현 재 분리된 0-2세, 3-5세, 초등학교 저학년 간의 교육과정을 정렬(alignment)하는 방안을 마련하여 교육 의 연속성을 확보하고 유아교사와 초등교사 상호 전문성에 대해 이해와 소통을 강화할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the case of New Jersey in the United States which has strengthened curriculum continuity between early childhood and elementary education. The findings reveal that New Jersey employs a segmented curriculum structure for children aged 0-2, 3-4, and 5 (kindergarten) while enhancing developmental and learning continuity through the New Jersey Early Learning Pathway, which aligns the curricula for ages 0-2 and 3-4. Furthermore, the state has aligned learning standards and developed implementation guidelines to ensure a smooth transition and curriculum continuum between preschool/Pre-K and kindergarten. Additionally, through P-3 alignment policies, New Jersey has standardized grade-level curricula and strengthened teacher expertise by enhancing the qualifications required for P-3 educators. To implement Leum education in Korea, it is essential to establish alignment among the curricula for ages 0-2, 3-5, and early elementary grades, while also creating opportunities for mutual communication and understanding of professional expertise between early childhood and elementary school teachers.
