국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 2022 개정 교육과정 체제에서 초등학교 체육과 및 사회과 교과 융합 수업의 운영 방안과 가능성을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 교육과정에 대한 이해도가 높은 연구 참여자 7명으로부터 체육과 및 사회과 교과 융합 수업에 대한 아이디어와 실천 방안을 제공받고, 연구진과의 협업을 통해 유형화하였다. 아울러 심층 면담 자료를 근거로 교과 융합 수업에 대한 인식, 교육적 효과, 시사점에 대하여 고찰하였다. 연구 결과, 교과 융합 수업의 유형은 크게 이상적인 방식의 ‘강한 융합’, 주 교과의 보조 수단으로 기능하는 ‘약한 융합’, 그리고 주제 중심 융합 수업으로서의 프로젝트형 수업으로 나타났다. 그리고 교과 융합 수업에 대한 현장교사의 인식은 초등교육의 성격에서 비롯한 자연스러움, 총론의 핵심역량과 교과 교육과정의 연결성에 대한 인식 제고, 억지스러운 융합에 대한 불편함, 교육과정 실행 상의 난점으로 범주화되었다. 교과 융합 수업은 학생의 입장에서 배움과 성장의 폭 확장, 교사의 입장에서는 교사 전문성 개발을 위한 수단이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 교과 융합 수업 개발 및 운영을 위한 지원 방안을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study explores the feasibility and implementation of integrated classes combining physical education and social studies in elementary schools under the 2022 Revised National Curriculum. To this end, teaching plans for the integrated classes were collected from seven participants with a high expertise in the national curriculum, and they were analyzed to categorize different types of integration, referred to in this study as convergence approaches. Subsequently, in-depth interviews were conducted to examine participants’ perceptions, the educational effects, and challenged associated with implementing integrated classes. The study identified three types of convergence approaches: 'strong convergence', representing an idealized and balanced integration of both subject, 'weak convergence', where one subject serves as a supplement to the other, and ‘project-based convergence’, which focused on topic-centered integration. Paricipants’ views on two curricular integration were categorized into four main themes: the natural alignment of integration with the nature of elementary education, heightened awareness of the connections between core competencies and curriculum, discomfort with forced convergence, and challenges in implementing the integrated curriculum. It was confirmed that physical education and social studies integrated classes can be a means to expand student learning and development while also promoting teacher professional growth. Based on the findings, this study offers recommendations to support development and implementation of integrated classes.
