벤야민의 <아케이드 프로젝트>를 통해 본 집단적 각성으로서의 교육

국문 초록

이 논문은 발터 벤야민의 <아케이드 프로젝트>를 기초로 하여, 그가 의도하였던 집단적 각성을 교육적 실천으로 해석하고자 한다. 학계에서는 일반적으로 ‘교육’을 근대성을 체화한 집단적 훈육으로 간주해 왔다. 그러나 이러한 근대적 주체의 형성은 사회화일 수는 있어도 교육으로 간주될 수는 없다. 교육은 근대적 주체의 형성에 맞대응하는 탈근대적 주체의 형성으로 개념화되어야 한다는 것이 이 연구의 핵심 아이디어이다. 근대적 주체를 탈근대적 주체로 거듭나게 하는 일로서의 집단적 각성을 과업으로 삼은 이가 유대신비주의와 사적 유물론의 결합을 시도한 벤야민이며, 그의 대표적인 저작이 <아케이드 프로젝트>이다. 이 저서에서 그는 자본주의의 유년기 19세기에 모더니티의 수도 파리의 문화를 연구의 대상과 주제로 삼아 문학적 몽타주의 글쓰기를 기획하였다. 그의 문학적 몽타주의 배치에는 그가 구안한 개념틀이 배후에 숨겨져 있어서 현재를 사는 우리의 노력 여하에 따라서 모종의 변증법적 이미지가 드러나게 되는데, 이때가 집단적 각성의 순간이다. 그가 체계와 동일성의 사유를 벗어나고자 몽타주적 글쓰기를 시도하였지만 계몽적 의도를 완전히 불식시켰는가 하는 점은 의문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 근대성을 극복할 수 있는 가능성을 문화적 심급에서 발견하고, 집단적 각성이라는 문화적 실천을 시도한 것은 교육학의 지평을 확장시켜준다는 의의가 있다. The purpose of this paper is to interpret the collective awakening in an educational perspective based on the . Many social scientists seem to regard ‘education’ as being a negative way, just like having an exact collective discipline of the modernity. But the creation of a modern subject like this can merely be regarded as socialization. That the definition of education should be the formation of the subject that counteracts the creation of a modern subject is what this paper asserts. Benjamin, whose intellectual nourishment was both Jewish mysticism and historical materialism, had the intention of a collective awakening in his mind and completed a Herculean task, as he said in a letter to his intimate friend G. Scholem, “howling like some small beastie in my nights whenever I haven't let it drink from the most remote sources during the day”. , the posthumously edited voluminous work shows us the culture of Paris in the 19th century as the object and theme of his project, and the literary montage as his writing style. has so many fragments of notes and commentary. The fragments have assembled in accordance with the hidden conceptual coordinates. Benjamin thought, S. Buck-Morss asserts, that the dreaming mass could get a dialectical image, that is the moment awakening from the assemblage of the fragments dialectically juxtaposed at the now of recognition. Though he attempted to work the project with the literary montage, he seem to have left room for doubt that he couldn't evade the pit of the enlightening intention. However, he had made an exemplar of the cultural praxis and invented elegant means that could overcome the modernity. We are indebted to him for our widened horizon of education for that reason.
