국문 초록

이 글은 도박중독으로 피해를 겪는 가족들의 자조모임인 단도박가족모임에서 일어나는 상생적 성찰에 관한 것이다. 자료수집은 5개월에 걸친 20회의 참여관찰과 주제보자 3인과 부제보자 10인에 대한 면담, 그리고 관련 문헌자료 분석을 통하여 이루어졌다. 단도박가족모임의 참여자들은 각자의 경험을 나누는 과정을 통해, 자기 자신과 가족모임, 그리고 세계와의 관계에 대한 의미를 재설정하게 된다. 이러한 변화는 참여자들이 자신의 절대적 한계를 인식하는 ‘바닥치기’와 ‘어쩔 수 있는 것과 어쩔 수 없는 것’을 구분하는 절망적 현실에 대한 직시, 가족의 중독문제 해결로부터 자신의 내면 문제로의 치환 그리고 성찰의 공유를 통한 ‘마음의 먼지 씻기’, ‘늘 깨어 있기’ 위한 환기와 갱신의 과정을 거치며 전개된다. 그 결과, 참여자들은 자신의 힘으로 어찌할 수 없는 현실을 겸허히 받아들이고, 도박중독자에 대한 ‘구원자’의 역할을 포기하는 대신, 자신의 마음을 닦는 ‘구도자’의 역할을 채택한다. 이 같은 상생적 성찰을 촉발하는 데에는, ‘익명화’ ‘성찰적 대화’ 그리고 ‘순환성’이 존재의 의미를 발견하는 과정에서 독특하게 작동하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. This research is about the cooperative reflection process of those who have participated in the family group of addicted gamblers under the Gamblers Anonymous(GA). Data were assembled through participatory observation in the family group, the ethnographic in-depth interview with three main informants and the other 10 supplementary informants, and web site searches and literature review. The family group operates in an open-mined and autonomous atmosphere, and prioritizes anonymity among its members. The participants came to reset the meaning of the relationship with themselves, the family group, and the world by sharing their painful experiences in the group. The transition process that the participants have shown evolves in the following stages: ‘reaching the despair level’ in recognizing their limits, ‘confrontation with reality’ by telling ‘what I can change’ from ‘what I can not change’, ‘purification of the soul’ through cooperative reflection and ‘refreshment and renewal’ to be awake continuously. As a result, they were able to humbly accept reality as it is and take the identity of ‘the seeker, or learner’ instead of regarding themselves as ‘the savior’ of their family. In the group, ‘anonymity’, ‘reflexive dialogue’ and ‘circulation in group’ facilitate this cooperative reflection process.
