국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아들이 느끼는 겨울 숲 자유놀이의 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구 참여자는 경기도 K시 소재 S유치원 만5세 숲반 유아 20명이다. 연구자는 이들의 부담임으로서 2017년 11월 3일부터 2018년 1월 말까지 총 36회에 걸쳐 유아의 숲 자유놀이를 참여관찰하고 부가적으로 면담 및 그림그리기를 실시하여 그 안에 담긴 자유놀이의 의미를 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 유아들이 느끼는 겨울 숲 자유놀이의 의미는 첫째, ‘뛰고 싶은 본능의 발산’이다. 겨울철 실내놀이에 한정되었다가 넓은 공간으로 나온 유아는 추워도 추운 줄 모르고 뛰고 또 뛰었다. 둘째, ‘상상하고 창조하는 놀이’이다. 놀이재료가 부족한 겨울 숲에서 눈으로 덮인 숲을 새로운 공간으로 인식하고 눈과 자연물을 이용해 자신들만의 상상의 놀이를 만들어 가는 과정을 즐겼다. 셋째, ‘도전과 협력, 공동의 성취감’이다. 친구들과 힘을 합하여 힘든 놀이를 만들어 도전하며 서로의 안전을 챙겨주는 모습도 볼 수 있었다. 넷째, ‘사색하고 탐구하는 조용한 공간’이다. 넓은 숲 공간에서 유아들은 때론 사색하기 위해 혼자만의 공간을 찾기도 하고, 활동에 몰입될수록 조용해지는 것도 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 다섯째, ‘내 친구, 자연과의 만남’이다. 계절에 따른 날씨와 곤충들의 변화를 체험하고 자연을 살아있는 친구처럼 여기며 자연스럽게 생명을 소중히 여기는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 유아들이 느끼는 겨울 숲 자유놀이의 의미를 통해 유아교육기관의 교육공간의 변화와 교사의 새로운 역할 변화를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of winter forest free play felt by children. The study subjects were 20 five-year-old children in the Forest Class in S kindergarten located in K City, Kyunggi Province. The investigator as their sub-homeroom teacher monitored their free play in the forest from November 3, 2017 to the end of January 2018 36 time, and performed interviews with paintings in addition to analyzing the meaning of their happiness. Based on the study results, first was ‘the release of instinct to run’ as the meaning of their happiness from their free play in the winter forest. The children who left limited indoor place to go to the wider place ran without feeling the cold weather. Second, it was ‘play with imagination and creation.’ In the winter forest where there was a lack of playing things, they acknowledged the snow-covered forest as the new space and enjoyed the process to make their own imaginative play using the snow and nature. Third, it was ‘challenge, cooperation, and a sense of collaborative accomplishment.’ They showed scenes to take care each other’s safety when challenging their friends with difficult play situations. The fourth one was ‘calm space to think and search something.’ The children often sought their own space to think in the wide forest space and became silent because they were absorbed by their activities. The fifth one was ‘meeting with my friends and nature.’ They showed they experienced the different weather and changes in insects by seasons, and considered nature as a living friend, and accordingly, consider living creatures to be precious. Based on the results of this study, changes in the educational space of early childhood education institutions and changes in the new role of teachers are proposed using winter forest free play for children.
