만 4세 유아들의 수학적 경험의 맥락과 교육적 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 어린이집의 하루일과 중 유아들의 수학적 경험이 어떠한 맥락에서 이루어지는지 살펴보고, 이러한 수학적 경험이 갖는 교육의 의미는 무엇인지 규명하고자 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 2017년 12월 4일부터 2018년 2월 23일까지 만 4세 마음반 유아 21명의 하루일과를 참여관찰 하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과, 유아들의 수학적 경험은 ‘또래와 함께 하는 수학적 경험’, ‘교사와 함께 하는 수학적 경험’, ‘유아 스스로 하는 수학적 경험’의 맥락으로 나타났다. 이러한 수학적 경험은 ‘수학적 성향이 향상되는 수학적 경험’, ‘문제해결력이 증진되는 수학적 경험’, ‘놀이가 창안되는 수학적 경험’의 교육적 의미를 내포하고 있었다. 본 연구를 토대로 보다 질 높은 수학교육을 위해 교사는 유아들의 수학적 경험이 조화롭게 일어나도록 해야 한다. 즉, 교사는 유아 스스로 수학활동에 참여할 수 있는 충분한 시간과 또래 간의 협력 및 또래 교수의 기회를 제공하고, 유아의 활동을 주의 깊게 관찰하여 적절히 개입하고 중재해야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the context of mathematical experience and to analyze the meaning of the mathematical experience of four-year-old children in day care center. For this purpose, we observed 21 four-year-old children from December 4, 2017 to February 23, 2018. The collected data consist of transcriptions from participatory observations, field notes, the journals of researchers and children's works. All data were analyzed and interpreted. As a result, the context of the mathematical experience was mathematical experience with peers, with teachers, and with themselves. And the educational implications of the mathematical experiences were improvement of mathematical disposition, problem solving ability, and invention of play. Based on these results, early childhood teachers should provide sufficient time for young children to participate mathematical activities, opportunities for peer collaboration and peer tutoring, carefully monitoring of the child's activities and intervening appropriately.
