전환학습이론에 기초한 유아교사교육의 가능성 탐색 : 예비교사의 반성적 사고와 반성에 대한 인식변화를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 비판적 반성에 초점을 맞춘 학습경험을 정규 수업과정에 포함시킴으로써 예비유아교사가 전환학습을 경험할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고, 그러한 경험이 그들의 현직 교사생활에서 어떠한 반성적 사고와 인식의 변화로 이어지는지를 탐색해 보았다. 본 연구의 참여자는 B시에 소재한 4년제 대학 유아교육과 3학년 학생 22명으로, 학생들에게는 유아교사론 강좌의 수업시간 동안 이론 강의, 소그룹 토론, 자서전 작성 및 발표, 수업사례 분석 및 토의, 매 주별 반성적 성격의 주제에 따라 비판적 자기반성을 야기하기 위해 고안된 질문을 포함한 저널쓰기가 과제로 주어졌다. 학생들의 저널은 학기말에 수집되었고 이는 내용분석법을 통해 범주화되었다. 범주화된 내용으로부터 도출된 학습경험의 내용과 의미를 바탕으로 예비유아교사가 자신이 속한 사회와 교육의 전반적인 이슈에 대해 비판적으로 사고해 나가면서, 그리고 동료들과의 의사소통을 통해 자신이 지금껏 당연시 해온 관점에 대해 의구심을 가지고 이를 다른 관점에 의해 상대화시키거나 더 포괄적인 관점으로 전환시켜 나가려고 노력하는 모습을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 수업에 참여했던 예비유아교사들 중, 졸업 후 생존기를 경험하고 있는 3명의 현직 초임교사를 대상으로 추후연구를 실시한 결과에서도 역시 기관 내 질적 수준에 따라 반성의 초점에 있어 차이가 나는 양상을 발견할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해 예비교사나 교사 스스로 자신의 교육과 관련된 가정과 신념들을 비판적으로 반성하고 주변의 타인과 합리적인 의사소통의 기회를 열어 나갈 때에 전환학습이 가능함을 타진해 볼 수 있었으며, 동시에 실제 교육현장에서 이를 가능하게 하는 의사소통의 부재 역시 한계로 지적되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to provide an opportunity for preservice early childhood teachers to undergo transformative learning through critical reflection as part of the regular curriculum. The subjects in this study were 22 juniors who majored in early childhood education at a four-year university located in the city of B. The students took a course in the theory of early childhood teaching, which involved theoretical lessons, small-group discussions, writing and presenting life stories, case analysis of instruction and discussion about that, and weekly reflective journal writing. They performed all the assignments, and they replied to the questions prepared to stimulate critical self-reflection in accordance with the selected themes while they kept journals. Their journals were collected at the end of the semester, and a content analysis was carried out to categorize what was written in their journals to find out what kinds of learning experiences they acquired and what the experiences meant for them. As a result, it was found that the preservice early childhood teachers came to think of general social and educational issues from a critical perspective. When they communicated with one another, they began to doubt their existing perspectives that they had just taken for granted, and tried to replace the perspectives with more objective or comprehensive ones. After three beginning teachers were selected from among the subjects of the study, follow-up research was implemented, and they appeared to be differences among the teachers in the focus of reflection according to the level of the educational institutions to which they belonged. The findings of the study indicated that both preservice early childhood teachers and early childhood teachers were able to do transformative learning when they reflected on their own assumptions and beliefs related to education from a critical viewpoint and had a rational communication with others. Actually, however, there was something to curb transformative learning in educational institutions. That was the very lack of communication that could possibly lead to transformative learning.
