코로나19 이후의 지속가능한 거리두기 속 영아반의 신체접촉 양상과 의미

국문 초록

지난 3년간 보육환경에서 교사와 영아간의 신체접촉의 최소화를 가져온 코로나19 사태는 지속가능한 거리두기 단계를 거쳐오며 어느덧 일상 회복의 단계로까지 접어들었다. 본 연구는 코로나19 지속가능한 거리두기 속 영아반의 교사와 영아 간 신체접촉의 양상은 어떠하고 그 의미는 무엇인지에 대한 답을 찾기 위해 만 1세반 담임교사 4명과 영아 20명에 대하여 참여관찰, 심층면담, 비형식적 면담, 문서자료, 연구자 저널을 통해 자료를 수집하였고 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 영아반에는 필연적인 신체접촉이 존재하였고, 영아와 교사 간 신체접촉을 통한 칭찬과 격려의 의미는 영아의 자아존중감을 형성하는데, 그리고 애정 표현의 의미는 애착 형성에 매우 중요한 가치를 지닐 수 있음이 드러났다. 연구참여자들은 영아반에서 신체접촉은 어린이집 생활의 거의 모든 부분을 차지하고 있다고 해도 과언이 아닐 만큼 필요하고 중요하다는 인식을 공통으로 가지고 있었다. 특히, 영아의 요구를 충족시키기 위해 방역지침의 경계를 넘어설 수밖에 없었던 맥락에서는 교사의 역할로 규정된 돌봄, 정서적 위로 등의 가치가 방역지침의 준수라는 가치보다 우선시되기도 하였다. 접촉 최소화 지침을 지켜내기 어려울 만큼 영아와 교사 간의 신체접촉은 필연적인 과정임이 여실히 드러났다. 보육 현장의 영아와 교사 간의 신체접촉 연구는 더욱 활발히 연구될 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

The current research examined the research fi ld to observe the patterns and significance of physical contact of young children in classes under sustainable social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic to identify the value and meaning of physical contact with the teacher to propose an alternative. The current study selected daycare centers and observed the free play time of four classes with four teachers and 20 toddlers in total, all aged one year, followed by in-depth interviews with the four teachers. As it is impossible to prohibit physical contact entirely, contacts between the toddlers and the teachers stemmed from the toddlers’ physiological needs, their conditions, their safety, and whether they were injured. Meanwhile, the changed physical contact patterns included toddler-teacher contact using masks and exclusion or replacement of plays that require the senses of smell or taste or direct, physical contact. The physical contact in young children’s classes under sustainable social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic carri s important significance. First, it shows the meaning of love, comfort, compliment, encouragement, and emotional comfort, while there is a dangerous risk of infection of the toddlers by the instructors. The current study examined the patterns and significance of toddlers’ physical contact with teachers and revealed the importance and value of physical contact between toddlers and teachers in a nurturing environment.
