국문 초록

철학적 인식론과 구분되는 논의로서의 교육인식론은 지식의 의미는 교육의 맥락에 비추어 볼 때 구체적으로 파악된다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 그 한 가지 중요한 결론은 지식의 획득과정 문제 또는 지식의 내면화 문제를 고려하면 지식의 성격 문제는 다른 방식으로 대답된다는 것이다. 그러나, 지식을 배우면 훌륭한 인간 또는 도덕적 인간이 된다는 점은 교육의 가장 기본적인 가정인 만큼, 교육인식론에는 그 점을 설명하기 위한 지식의 정당화 문제가 포함되지 않으면 안된다. 지식의 정당화 문제를 포함하게 되면 교육인식론은 도덕교육이론의 성격을 띠게 되며, 그에 따라 지식의 내면화 문제와 지식의 성격 문제도 또다시 다른 방식으로 대답되게 된다. 성리학은 ‘중층구조’에 입각하여 이 모든 문제를 설명함으로써 온전한 형태의 교육인식론 또는 인식론은 어떤 것인지를 보여 주고 있다.

영문 초록

Educational epistemology presents an approach to knowledge which is distinct from that of philosophical epistemology. Whereas the latter is mainly concerned with the nature of knowledge, the former takes education or learning as the ground for reconsidering the nature of knowledge. By examining the process of the acquisition of knowledge or the process of the internalization of subject matter, educational epistemology finds the fact that knowledge is what is social or public, which has been suppressed by the classical theories of knowledge. However, educational epistemology as it stands cannot achieve its full character. The Neo-Confucianist theory of knowledge shows that educational epistemology, when pressed to its conclusion, turns out to be a theory of moral education. In the Neo-Confucianist way of thinking, knowledge is the passage to the upper layer , that is to say, the metaphysical level where all kinds of perfection including the moral perfection are realized. Thus, knowledge is the passage to the moral perfection, and in this lies the justification for the pursuit of knowledge. And further, this conception of justification redefines the nature of knowledge and the process of the internalization of subject matter. In short, the Neo-Confucianist theory of knowledge can be said to be an exemplar of educational epistemology.
