범주 경계선적 대상에 대한 유아의 생명현상 이해

국문 초록

이 연구는 범주 경계선적 대상에 대한 전조작기 유아의 생명현상 이해가 유아의 연령과 대상의 속성에 따라 차이가 있는지 검토하고, 이를 통해 유아의 생물개념 발달양상을 밝히고자 하였다. 서울과 경기도의 중류층 거 주 지역 소재 어린이집 3곳과 유치원 1곳에서 3, 4, 5세 유아 총 120명을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 연구대상 유아는 이 연구를 위하여 개발된 경계선적 대상인 인간형 지능로봇을 관찰한 후 생명현상 판단 및 판단근거 과제를 수행하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 프로그램에서 다중응답 교차분석을 이용하여 통계처리 하였다. 이 연구 의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 경계선적 대상인 인간형 지능로봇에 대한 유아의 생명현상 판단근거는 유아의 연 령과 경계선적 대상의 속성에 따라 차이가 있었다. 3세 유아의 판단근거는 불분명 하였지만, 4, 5세 유아는 생 물학적 속성을 근거로 경계선적 대상에 대한 생명현상을 판단하였다. 특히 5세 유아는 3, 4세 유아와 비교했을 때 심리적 속성도 판단근거로 사용한 경우가 많았다. 또한 4, 5세 유아의 생명현상 판단근거는 인간형 지능로봇 의 속성에 따라 차이가 있었다. 4, 5세 유아가 인간형 지능로봇의 생명현상을 판단할 때, 로봇이 생물학적 속성 인 운동성과 심리적 속성인 정서표현을 모두 나타내는 경우 생물이 가지는 본질적 특성과 심리적 속성도 함께 근거로 사용하여 생명현상을 판단하였다. 이 연구는 생명현상이 모호하게 나타나는 경계선적 대상에 대한 전조 작기 유아의 생명현상 이해를 실험 연구를 통하여 탐색함으로써 유아의 생물개념 발달 연구에 기초 자료를 제 공했다는 점에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in children’s understanding of life phenomenon about the objects in category boundaries. In order to clarify the developmental pattern of biological concepts in preoperational children, we recruited 120 children aged 3, 4, and 5 years old in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. After watching human-robot interaction videos, children were asked to judge the phenomenon of “life” in the robots. The collected data were statistically analyzed using multiple response analysis in SPSS program. The results were as follows. The children’s judgement of “life” and the underlying reasons were different according to age and the robots’ properties. 3-year-olds judged “life” in the robots with unclear reasons, but 4- and 5-year-olds judged based on the biological properties. In addition, 5-year-olds were more likely to adopt psychological properties as well as biological properties as reasons for their judgement. Moreover, the explanation of 4- and 5-year-olds for judging the phenomenon of life depended on the robots’ properties; as the robot’s properties become more complex, 4- and 5-year-olds judged life based on the essential characteristics of living beings as well as psychological properties. This study is meaningful in that it provided basic data for the development of biological concept of children by exploring their understanding of the life phenomenon about the boundary objects.
