국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 무용예술의 댄스IP 구축과 그 확장이 라이브니스 공연으로 이어질 수 있는 가능성을 고찰하는 데 있다. 현재 공연시장 내 무용은 낮은 비중을 차지하며, 관객의 능동적 참여를 유도할 장치가 부족한 실정이다. 이러한 상황에서 무용의 기록과 저작권 보호를 위한 댄스IP는 중요한 대안으로 부상하고 있다. 코로나19 이후 댄스필름과 아카이브 활동이 확대되면서 무용 접근성은 높아졌으나, 제도적 기반은 여전히 미흡하다. 최근 무븐트가 제안한 ICC 코드와 퍼블리싱 시스템은 안무가 권리 보호의 출발점이 되고 있으며, 향후 표준화된 기록과 유통 체계 확립이 요구된다. 또한 발레<백조의 호수>가 애니메이션⋅영화⋅상품으로 확장된 사례는 아동 관객 유입, 친근한 스토리텔링과 음악, 아카이빙 기반 유통이 IP화 성공의 핵심 요인임을 보여준다. 이는 무용이 공연장에서 소멸하는 일회성 예술을 넘어, 다양한 매체와 플랫폼을 통해 새로운 가치로 확장될 수 있는 잠재력을 시사한다. 나아가 창작자⋅공연자⋅관객이 권리와 경험을 공유하는 새로운 패러다임을 형성함으로써, 무용예술은 예술성과 산업성을 동시에 추구하는 융합적 모델로 자리매김할 수 있음을 제시한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the potential for establishing and expanding Dance IP (Intellectual Property) within dance art, and how this expansion can lead to enhanced forms of liveness in performance. Currently, dance occupies a limited portion of the performing arts market and lacks sufficient mechanisms to foster active audience engagement. In this context, Dance IP is emerging as a significant alternative for the documentation and copyright protection of choreographic works. While the proliferation of dance films and archiving activities since COVID-19 has increased accessibility, the institutional framework to support these efforts remains underdeveloped. The recent proposal of the ICC (International Choreographic Code) and a publishing system by MUVNT serves as a crucial starting point for protecting choreographers' rights, highlighting the future necessity of establishing a standardized system for documentation and distribution. Furthermore, the case of the ballet Swan Lake—which successfully expanded into animation, films, and merchandise—demonstrates that key factors for successful IP development include attracting younger audiences, recognizable storytelling and music, and an archive-based distribution model. This discussion confirms that dance is not merely an ephemeral art form that vanishes after a performance, but can be reborn with new value across various media and platforms. Ultimately, this study suggests that by fostering a new paradigm where creators, performers, and audiences share rights and experiences, dance art can establish itself as a convergent model that simultaneously pursues both artistic value and industrial potential.
