국문 초록

최근 전세계적으로 K-contents의 활약과 함께 한국문화에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 자연스럽게 ‘한글’에 대한 주목으로도 이어지고 있다. K-contents의 한 분야로 ‘한글’이 주목받는 시대적 배경은 ‘한글’을 ‘문자’로만 이해하고 그 조형성에 머무르지 않도록 하는 관점의 필요성을 요구한다. 이 연구는 ‘한글’과 ‘예술’의 연계를 통해 문자 그 이상의 확장을 도모함으로써 새로운 문화적 정체성 구현을 기대하며 이를 위해 한글과 개념미술 이론에 대한 문헌 연구와 한글을 소재로작업하는 개념미술 작가를 연구참여자로 선정하여 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 연구결과 한글을 활용한 미술작품은 문자예술의 창의적 계승, 시각적 문해력의 확장, 언어공동체로서 문화적 연대감형성, 한글문화영토 구축을 통한 보편적 가치의 확보로 분석되었다. 이 연구 결과는 시각예술의 사회⋅문화적 의미 생성의 과정을 탐색한 것과 작가주의 예술을 향한 시선의 한계 극복 모델을 제시했다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 또한 개념미술 철학이 한국적으로 해석될 수 있는 가능성도 확보한다. 향후 인터뷰의 대상이 제한적인 부분을 보완하고 분석 체계의 기준을 명시적으로 한 비교 연구를 제안하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Recently, with the rise of K-contents around the world, interest in Korean culture has increased, which has naturally led to attention on ‘Hangeul’ as well. The historical context in which ‘Han-geul’ is receiving attention as a field of K-contents demands a perspective that does not limit itself to understanding ‘Han-geul’ as just ‘letters’ and its formative nature. This study aims to realize a new cultural identity by expanding beyond the text through the connection between ‘Han-geul’ and ‘art.’ To this end, it conducted a literature review on Hangeul and conceptual art theory and interviewed conceptual artists who work with Han-geul as research participants. The research results show that artworks utilizing Hangul represent the creative continuation of written art, the expansion of visual literacy, the formation of cultural solidarity as a language community, and the securing of universal values through the establishment of a Hangul cultural territory. The results of this study are significant in that they explore the process of creating social and cultural meaning in visual art and present a model for overcoming the limitations of the perspective toward authorial art. It also secures the possibility that the philosophy of conceptual art can be interpreted in a Korean way. However, limitations arising from the research method will be left for follow-up research
