국문 초록

본 연구에서는 van der Auwera et al.(1998)의 ‘양태의미지도(Modality's semantic map)’에서 ‘당위양태’의 두 의미속성인 ‘허락’과 ‘의무’의 문법화 과정이 서로 영향을 주고받는다는 점에 착안하여, 중국지역 소수민족 언어의 ‘당위양태’를 대상으로 의미유형별로 분류하고 통사적인 특성을 분석하여 이를 뒷받침할 수 있는 사례를 제시하였다. 본고의 연구내용은 크게 세 부분으로 나뉜다. 첫째, ‘허락/허용(permission)’ 양태를 나타내는 성분을 발췌하여 통사적인 특성을 살펴보았는데, 긍정문과 부정문에 쓰이는 허락 양태가 분리되는 현상이 두드러지게 관찰되었다. 그리고 ‘허락’ 양태가 쓰인 어순과 다른 양태가 쓰인 어순이 달라지는 언어도 발견되었다. 둘째, ‘의무(obligation)’ 양태를 나타내는 성분을 발췌하여 의미 및 통사적인 특성을 살펴보았다. 한 언어에서 ‘의무’ 양태를 나타내는 표지가 2개 이상인 언어가 다수 확인되었으며, 이들은 ‘의무’의 종류와 강도가 달랐다. 그리고 ‘의무’ 양태가 계사와 공기하여 쓰이는 언어가 발견되었는데, 이것은 ‘의무’ 양태의 문법화 경로를 살펴볼 수 있는 귀중한 사례이다. 또한 ‘의무’ 양태의 경우 한어에서 차용된 성분이 많다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 본고의 분석내용을 토대로 중국 소수민족 언어의 당위양태의 문법화 경로에 대해 고찰을 진행하였으며, ‘허락’과 ‘의무’ 양태의 상관성을 증명할 만한 여러 근거를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Based on the idea that the grammaticalization process of “permission” and “obligation,” the two semantic properties of “deontic modality” in the modality's semantic map by Van der Auwera et al.(1998), influences one another, this study classified “deontic modality” of the minority language in China by semantic types and analyzed its syntactic characteristics to present supporting examples. The study is largely divided into three parts: First, the syntactic characteristics were examined by extracting the components that express 'permission,' and it was obviously observed that a phenomenon in which it was used in positive and negative statements was separated. Moreover, a language was also found in which the order of the sentences expressing “permission” was different from the order of the sentences where another modality was used. Second, the component which expresses “obligation” was extracted to examine the semantic and syntactic characteristics. As a result, many languages with more than two signs indicating the “obligation” in language were identified, and they had different types and intensities of “obligation.” Furthermore, a language that uses the modals of “obligation” with a copula was found, and it is a valuable example that provides a chance to examine its grammaticalization path. Moreover, it was also confirmed that there were many components borrowed from Mandarin. Third, based on the analysis of this study, a review of the grammaticalization path of the deontic modality in minority languages in China was performed, and various pieces of evidence proving the correlation between the modals of “permission” and “obligation” were presented.
