This article investigates the protagonist’s awareness of guilt and the process of inner change depicted in Shiokari Pass, before turning to an analysis of the author’s own awareness of guilt and inner change as portrayed in Michi-ariki. In Shiokari Pass, Nobuo Nagano is initially prejudiced against Christianity, but, following his encounter with Shun’u Nakamura, develops an awareness of universal sin, which entails that all humans are guilty. Subsequently, through meeting Kazuma Iki, he comes to deeply recognise his own sin. After undergoing profound self-despair, the protagonist experiences an inner transformation and ultimately accepts sublime sacrifice. Further, in Michi-ariki, the author recounts that she initially lacked life goals or will but gains a will to live after meeting Tadashi Maekawa. Later, through her encounter with her former fiancé, Nishinaka, the work depicts the process whereby she becomes aware of her own sinfulness and embarks on a journey towards repentance. Thus, the sacrificial act by Nobuo Nagano, the protagonist of Shiokari Pass, cannot be adequately understood as a mere surface action. It is essential to consider both the process of Nagano’s inner change and the author Ayako Miura’s own life struggles, which brought about a change in her perspective and ultimately led her to portray such a character.

영문 초록

本稿では『塩狩峠』において描かれた主人公の罪の自覚と内面的な変化の過程を考察し、続いて『道ありき』における作家自身の罪の自覚と内面的変化を探った。『塩狩峠』の永野信夫は、当初キリスト教に対して否定的な偏見を持っていたが、中村春雨との出会いを通して、すべての人間が罪を持っているという普遍的な罪に対する自覚を持つようになる。その後、伊木一馬との出会いを通して、自らが罪を持つ人間であるという事実を深く自覚するようになる。深い自己絶望の過程を経て、信夫は内面的な変化を遂げ、最終的には崇高な犠牲の行為にまで至ることができたのである。また、『道ありき』を通しては、初め三浦が人生に対する目標や意志を持たずにいたが、前川正を通じて生きる意志を持つようになることが描かれていた。その後、元婚約者である西中との出会いの過程を通して、自らが罪人であることを深く自覚し、回心に至る過程が描かれていた。このように、『塩狩峠』の主人公·永野信夫が行った犠牲の行為は、単なる表面的な行動だけでは理解するには不十分である。永野信夫という人物の内面的変化の過程、そしてこのような人物を描くにあたって、作家·三浦綾子自身が経験した人生の挫折と、それによってもたらされた内面の変化の旅路が存在するという事実を念頭に置く必要がある。
