국문 초록

A last will is often depicted in literary works as a heartfelt plea or final message left by someone facing death to the living. In Genji Monogatari, wills and letters of last wishes appear considerably, and these death-related scenes profoundly influence the lives of the survivors and have a decisive impact on the development of the monogatari. The words of the deceased guide the lives of the living. In this sense, the importance of the wills expressed in monogatari cannot be overstated. Meanwhile, Rokujono Miyasudokoro, a unique character in Genji Monogatari, also leaves behind a will. The will she left to Genji just before her death controls Genji’s actions and subsequently plays a significant role in the development of the story. Previous studies generally interpret the will of Rokujono Miyasudokoro as an expression of ‘maternal practice’ concerning her daughter’s future, which is deemed a valid analysis. However, it is also hard to deny that if we become too focused on the aspect of ‘mother’, we may overlook certain facets. Therefore, this paper aims to further explore the correlation between the will of Rokujono Miyasudokoro and ‘woman’, while still relying on the achievements of previous research. Through this, I aim to search for the potential of the ‘will’ as a record of the inner turmoil and reflection of the captivating woman that is Rokujono Miyasudokoro.

영문 초록

遺言は死を目前にした人が生きている人に残す切実なメッセージで、文学作品の中で劇的な場面として描写されることが多い。『源氏物語』にも遺言や遺書などが多数登場しているが、死に関わるこのような場面は残された人の人生に深く関わり、物語の展開にも決定的な影響を及ぼしている。死んでいく人の言葉が生きている人を呪縛していると言えるし、その意味で物語に現れた遺言の重要性は計り知れないと思われる。一方、六条御息所は『源氏物語』に登場する女君の中でも一際個性的な人物で、様々な面で異彩を放っている。愛情と執着、罪と救済など、様々な点で『源氏物語』の大きな主題とも深く関わっていると言わざるを得ないが、六条御息所は須磨から帰った光源氏と再会した際、切実な遺言を残している。周知のように、この際の遺言は源氏の行動や以後の物語を規制することになるが、従来、六条御息所の遺言は主に母性の側面で把握されてきた。これは様々な面で妥当と言わざるをえないが、ただ、そのような側面にあまりにも集中することでややもすれば見失われる側面もあると思われる。したがって本稿では、六条御息所の遺言を母性と共に女という視点で捉えなおし、古典原文に沿って考察してみた。これを通して六条御息所という女性の苦悩と内面のメッセージとして、遺言のもつ可能性を模索してみた
