국문 초록

본 연구는 1930년대 주요섭과 노양근의 글쓰기에 나타난 새로운 감수성의등장을 ‘발명과학’의 관점에서 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 주요섭은 미신을 야만적인 것으로 여겨 비판하고, 문명화된 삶의 특징으로서 과학적 사고의 필요성을 강조했다. 그는 발명과학을 식민지 조선인에게 근대 문명을 소개하는 핵심 요소로 설명했다. 주요섭은 소년소설 「?」에서 발명과학이 특히인간의 생명에 위협이 될 수 있는 잠재적 위험성에 대해서도 우려를 표했다. 주요섭의 발명과학에 대한 다면적인 시각은, 발명과학이 일본제국주의의억압에 대한 해결책이 될 수 있다는 그의 믿음을 반영하는 한편, 식민지 조선의 소년들이 인간 생명에 영향을 미치는 발명과학에 대해 비판적인 시각을 유지해야 한다는 점도 강조한다. 주요섭의 과학적 글쓰기는 일제강점기 시기 소년 독자들이 당대의 현실을 직시하고, 존재론적 성찰에 이르도록 독려했다. 반면, 노양근은 농촌 공동체를 배경으로 한 과학적 생활의 방식을 강조했다. 그는 동화 「날아다니는 사람」에서 가난한 농촌 아이들이 발명과학을 통해 경제적 이득과 일상생활의 변화를 꿈꾸는 모습을 묘사하며, ‘발명하는 어린이’라는 이상적이고 주체적인 인물상을 제시했다. 이처럼 주요섭과 노양근의 과학적 글쓰기는 1930년대 식민지 조선에서 발명과학이 지닌 긍정적 측면과 부정적 측면을 모두 보여준다. 이들의 작품은발명가 정신을 일제강점기의 고난과 억압 속에서 민족의 독립과 생존을 위한수단으로 제시했다. 또한 근대 아동들이 발명과학을 추구하는 과정에서 인간의 존엄성과 생명 윤리를 지키는 것이 중요하다는 점을 인식하도록 도왔다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the emergence of a new sensibility in the writings of Ju Yo-seop and Noh Yang-geun during the 1930s from the perspective of invention science. Ju Yo-seop criticized superstition as barbaric and emphasized the necessity of scientific thinking as a hallmark of civilized life. He described invention science as a key element in introducing modern civilization to the colonized Korean people. In his juvenile fiction “?”, Ju also expressed concerns about the potential dangers of invention science, particularly its threat to human life. Ju Yo-seop’s multifaceted view of invention science reflects his belief that it could serve as a solution to the oppression of Japanese imperialism, while also emphasizing that boys in colonial Korea should maintain a critical perspective on its impact on human life. His scientific writings encouraged young readers of the colonial era to confront the realities of their time and engage in existential reflection. In contrast, Noh Yang-geun emphasized a scientific way of life set against the backdrop of rural communities. In his children’s story “The Flying person”, he depicted impoverished rural children dreaming of economic gain and changes in their daily lives through invention science, presenting the ideal and self-directed figure of the “inventive child.” In this way, the scientific writings of both Ju Yo-seop and Noh Yang-geun reveal both the positive and negative aspects of invention science in 1930s colonial Korea. Their works presented the spirit of the inventor as a means of national independence and survival during the hardship and oppression of Japanese colonial rule. They also helped modern children recognize the importance of upholding human dignity and bioethics in the pursuit of invention science.
