국문 초록

본 연구는 K-pop과 한국의 인디 음악 신(indie scene) 간의 구조적 상호관계를 피에르 부르디외(Pierre Bourdieu)의 장(field) 이론과 하워드 베커의 예술계(Art Worlds) 개념을 이론적 틀로 삼아 분석한다. K-pop은 세계화되고 시장 지향적인 대중문화의 전면에 위치한 대표적 콘텐츠이지만, 그 이면에는 창의적 노동, 예술적 실험, 대안적 가치체계를 유지하는 인디 신이라는 보이지 않는 기반이 존재한다. 본 논문은 이 둘의 관계를 이분법적 대립 구도가 아닌 ‘문화적 공진화(cultural co-evolution)’의 관점에서 해석하고자 한다. 기존 연구들이 K-pop의 산업적 성공에 주목해온 반면, 본 연구는 K-pop 이라는 장의 비(非)가시적 기반으로서 인디 신의 문화적 실천이 어떤 방식으로 영향을 미치고 있는지를 조명한다. 인디창작자들은 독립성과 창의성에 기반 한 창작을 지속하면서 동시에 음악 산업의 전반적 다양성과 실험성을 확장시키는역할을 수행해왔으며, 이는 결과적으로 K-pop을 포함한 한국 대중음악 산업의 역동성과 세계화 전략에 긴밀히 연결되어있다. 본 연구는 K-pop의 장(field)과 인디 신 간의 위계와 분리보다는 상호작용성과 공진화를 중심으로 한국 음악 산업의 다층적 구조를 재해석하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the structural interrelationship between K-pop and the Korean indie music scene through the theoretical frameworks of Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory and Howard Becker’s concept of art worlds. While K-pop occupies the forefront of globalized, market-oriented popular culture, it is underpinned by the often-invisible foundation of the indie scene, which sustains creative labor, artistic experimentation, and alternative value systems. Rather than framing their relationship as a binary opposition, this paper interprets it through the lens of cultural co-evolution. In contrast to existing scholarship that primarily emphasizes K-pop’s industrial success, this study highlights how the cultural practices of the indie scene function as an essential, though largely unseen, basis for the K-pop field. Indie creators maintain independent, creativity-driven production while expanding the overall diversity and experimental scope of the music industry—a role that is closely connected to the dynamism and globalization strategies of Korean popular music as a whole. By foregrounding interaction and co-evolution over hierarchy and separation, this research seeks to reinterpret the Korean music industry as a multilayered structure of interrelated cultural fields.
