국문 초록

본 논문은 전도서 12장 13-14절에 대한 세 가지 해석, 곧 역사비평적 해석, 두 화자 공존설, 전통적 해석을 소개하고 검토한 뒤, 이 가운데 전통적 해석의 타당성을논증한다. 역사비평적 관점은 12장 13-14절을 전도자의 염세적 발언을 보완하기 위해 후대 편집자가 삽입한 신앙적 결론으로 본다. 두 화자 공존설은 전도서에 본론부의 ‘전도자’(1:12-12:7)와 결언부의 ‘익명의 지혜 교사’(12:8-14)라는 두 인물이 존재한다고 보고, 결언부를 본론부에 대한 평가이자 교정으로 해석한다. 이에 반해 본고는 전통적 해석의 입장에서, 12장 13-14절이 전도자가 본론부 전체를 통해 탐구한 삶의 의미와 신학적 주제들을 집약하며, 전도서 전체의 메시지를 완성하는 결론임을 주장한다. 특히 결언부는 ‘하나님 경외’와 ‘하나님의 심판’이라는 주제를 본론부와 일관되게 다루고 있으며, 언어적·주제적·구조적으로도 본론부와 긴밀히 연결되어 있다. 따라서 12장 13-14절은 후대의 첨가나 ‘익명의 지혜 교사’의 발언이 아니라, 전도자의 말로서 전도서 전체를 하나의 통일된 메시지로 읽게 하는 신학적 중심이자 해석의 열쇠로 간주되어야 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines three representative interpretations of Ecclesiastes 12:13-14: the historical-critical interpretation, the dual-voice view, and the traditional interpretation. The historical-critical approach regards 12:13-14 as a pious conclusion inserted by a later editor to soften or counterbalance the pessimistic tone of the Teacher. The dual-voice view posits two distinct speakers within Ecclesiastes−the “Teacher” of the body (1:12-12:7) and an “anonymous sage” in the epilogue (12:8-14)−and interprets the epilogue as an evaluation and correction of the main discourse. In contrast, this study argues from the standpoint of the traditional interpretation that 12:13-14 constitutes the Teacher’s own conclusion, encapsulating the theological themes and reflections on the meaning of life explored throughout the body of the book, and thus serves as the climax of Ecclesiastes’ message. In particular, the epilogue articulates the recurring themes of “fearing God” and “divine judgment,” exhibiting strong linguistic, thematic, and structural coherence with the body of Ecclesiastes. Therefore, 12:13-14 should not be regarded as a later addition or the words of an anonymous sage, but as the words of the Teacher himself−functioning as the theological center and interpretive key that enables Ecclesiastes to be read as a unified and coherent message.
